Field sizes the poor cousin of all other Satuday meets.......why is it so?
Programing officials bereft of ideas.....or......feeding regimes of some stables frightening off the natives.....or.....track issues....or......Venus passing Uranus..or...purse to low.
Go figure....sooner or later someone is going to get tired of throwing bags of cash at it and get fields like this.
Interesting the grubs have had my post deleted already.
The McCarthey's don't like the truth do they.
Not sure if you read that prior to your post, Romper Stomper

Romper Room wasn't Mrs Menangle in neighbors? She was that old Trollope married to the emu from Moonee Vallet trots.
I have never been to Menangle and don't ever want to go.
You need a helmet out there to stop the dribble from the mongs getting on you not to mention the grenades in the McCarthy vs everyone war.
More harness racing people in Nsw prisonsthan suspected terrorists. That sais something lol.

Littlegypt after reading your post i looked at my figures and found that i bet considerably more on Maitland than Menangle I have also heard in the past that Menangle turnover has disappointed compared to Harold Park.
I wonder how club members who went for the development spin are feeling about it now?
The catastrophic blunder i feel was not moving to the Homebush Olympic site in the late 1990s

Harness Racing New South Wales today concluded an inquiry into the driving tactics adopted by Mr Luke McCarthy on EXCEL STRIDE in race 4, the Form 700 Pace (1609 metres) at TABCORP Park Menangle on Saturday 12 October 2013.
Mr Luke McCarthy was found guilty of charged pursuant to Rule 149 (2) in that he drove EXCEL STRIDE in an unacceptable manner, the particulars being:
That passing the 1200 metres he allowed EXCEL STRIDE to work forward to race outside MACH BEAUTY and from the 1100 metres until the 800 metres he continued to apply pressure to MACH BEAUTY resulting in a 2nd quarter of 26.9 being recorded. Further that between those points that Mr McCarthy failed to show sufficient effort to restrain EXCEL STRIDE. That passing the 800 metres he again allow EXCEL STRIDE to press forward and continue to apply pressure to MACH BEAUTY until at least approaching the 600 metres and that again he failed to sufficiently restrain EXCEL STRIDE.
Mr Luke McCarthy licence to drive in races was suspended for 6 weeks to commence at midnight on Wednesday 23 October 2013.

Unless the usual reduction in sentence down to 2 weeks because the stipes cannot make charges stick.
At least they spotted this one.

romper stomper I remember at the time all the press/media talked positive about move from HP to Menangle. all media outlets said punters will bet with confidence turnover will skyrocket and all horses on the big track will be given every chance. wrong on all 3 counts. I realize prizemoney is far better but turnover on Menangle in fact most harness racing Australia wide must be at an all time low with little chance of recovery.

Littlegypt the elephant in the room in NSW is the intracode agreement.God help harness racing if they ever have to renegotiate it.HR percentage has drifted well south of the figures at negotiation. Can't imagine it turning around any decade soon with all the muck out there.

Sprint lane would only serve to make racing there less competitive in my view Craig, no need for it on a track with those dimensions.
There is absolutely no doubt that the post about multiple stable runners in races being the cause of consistent corruption in NSW harness racing is spot on. And there is one constant factor in that problem

that would seem a logical argument but i think you are more chance of winning three pegs at penrith than at menangle
it can't be much less competitive till the 400 also Aussie
except for the Excel Stride race

Yes, you make a point. A real problem and there doesn't seem any urgency in fixing it. Maybe sending some of the SA drivers up there is the answer, throw the likes of Paul Cav and Boris Devcic into every race and you would see some different tactics!!!

one problem i think is while they start early saturday night to quickly follow on from the last of the horseracing this probably stops anyone going as by about 7 there is nothing much to come
why not run 4 low grade R0's or C0's (turnover would be no worse) and then have the higher grade races starting at 7.30

i know the issues run deeper than this but other states seem to have their meetings as a bit of an event that culminate in the big race at say 10 - all you have after 8 at menangle saturday night is a couple of trotters races
also most people who might go to the trots would like the horse races and still be caught up in that as the trots start
