Firstly anyone who has a desire to get a dalmation...dont.... they are dead set
the most crazy dogs on earth and biting machines.

Mrs GhostStory has her heart set on a whippet....anyone had experience with the
poor mans greyhound?  Need something that can handle a small yard.

German Shepherd is the go...The most intelligent, gentle dog around....but make sure you see the parents of any dog you buy, especially a large dog. Hip problems and arthritis are a problem in the larger breeds.
Whatever you do don't buy from a pet shop unless they guarantee it isn't a puppy mill dog.Puppy mill dogs live their life in a small cage, and are just puppy producing production lines. It's legalised cruelty.
I'll place the curse of the German Shepherd on anyone that buys a puppy mill puppy!Angry
The best place to acquire a new dog is the RSPCA...A dog rescued from there will reward you with gratitude every day of it's life. I speak from experience.

Oh and that big dogs need a big yard stuff is absolute crap.
Dogs spend their life in a backyard laying around doing nothing.
They get their exercise from walks.
Once again I speak from experience....huge yard and the Shepherd used about 1% of it, but loved to walk.

In the end there are no bad breeds, just bad owners.
Any dog that receives rules, boundaries and limitations from it's owner will be a great companion

What whoop says
and
If looking for a Multi-Tasker, then hard to go past Doberman Pinscher, walk with it and watch it scatter the flea bag Toy poodles
If trained correctly will also stop any annoying 'missus'from advancing.
Docked tail makes it clean and easy maintenance.

buy a stud collar(for the dog)and bingo.
however
don't try to get a free tram ride using it as a guide dog,Myki driver won't buy it.

Thanks gentleman.... shall take the tram advice onboard 8ball.
Stud collar works a treat in St Kilda.
Doberman P. and German Shepard sound solid hounds Whoopi...
Like the RSPCA advice, although a trip there can be somewhat
stressful for the good lady.....some heart breaking auditions
when walking the kennels.

Whippets are great pets, they bond with people, and love curling up into a small basket, so they dont take up huge space or need a proper kennel.

Exercise usually involves running around in circles whenever you come home.

p.s. dont give them a bean bag or any bedding with stuffing as they like to shake and kill the bed.

My cousin has had a whippet for yonks(nice enough thing), recently got a whippet puppy. That's an endorsement.

If you want to sway her into the best dog on earth, the Labrador, tell her anyone who sits next to a whippet looks

When I hooked up with the new Mrs Salty she possessed a giant whippet (american blood lines or just bloddy well fed) and a old terrier. Seriously the whippet is the best brand of dog ever, they are happy just lazing round - super smart and the best thing is taking him out letting him slip from the lead and explode into motion at the beach chasing the ball (or anything really)

Thanks for the feedback and endorsement gentleman......  I'm not finding a bad word about this style of hound....
I'm going for it, have tracked down a grey one....
I hear you M.Salty and Make me fly just went out and saw a mates whippet at the park.... moves like Cyril Rioli amazing to watch.....
He tells me they are dead set bed sluts though.

It is a concern Mr Spoooner....No way I'm feeding into Mrs Ghost
body image issues...
