From the administrators and stewards sweeping corruption under the rug, their incompetence and their continuing to turn blind eyes from anything that may bring the racing industry into disrepute, their light handed slaps for infringements and their lack of foresight to run a transparent and highly policed industry.............. the trainers who are damned if they dont use doping to compete with the stables that are rife with it and are freely willing to use anything at their disposal to get a win................ the jockeys who bet against their own mounts and who organize race fixing amongst a select few..............the morally and ethically corrupt bookmakers who will go to any lengths to achieve their profit margins and wouldnt give a sniff about their obligations to problem gambling.

Its not as if any of the above hasnt been committed in the last few years if not few months, most reading this would be aware that a jockey who has  admitted to betting is still riding, that B.Shinn got 6 months for betting, for fck sake 6 months, that trainers have been caught with positive tests and receive 2, 3, or 4 months on the side lines or the covering up of certain " high profile trainers" who have returned positive swabs, but we cant be dragging the biggest names in the industry down.

This industry is going down the toilet, and still journo's get lambasted for writing front page news reports because we want to protect a certain time of the year because the betting turnover is so big, what a joke that the biggest of all Administrator in the Victorian Industry would say it is irresponsible to write such a piece..............SHAME ON HIM

I am embarrassed to be part of this industry, and will seriously consider not betting on horse racing again, no longer can I claim that Australian horse racing is the cleanest in the world. I was never blinded to say there was no shifty business going on but now I feel that it is corrupt from the top down all the way and the only ones that walk away clean are the everyday punters that are hurt and deceived the most

I'm pretty sure Kye is not a communist. He's much worse than that. He's a Liberal voter.

And I'm pretty sure this isn't the same Aker who stuck a knife through my heart by kicking that goal late in the 2002 Grand Final.

Kye appears to have been pwned by a troll who likes to big-note himself by pretending to have jockeys in his pocket.

Hey, I got a tip from a jockey once. I was working as a strapper at the time and this apprentice borrowed $20 from me early in the week. On the Saturday he told me that a horse he was riding that day couldn't lose. So I had a tenner on it at 14/1 and it **** in. Naturally enough I told him not to worry about the $20.

Pretty harmless stuff really. I doubt if it was a boat race. It was a very heavy track that day and the kid knew that the horse was a swimmer.

I'm really not sure why it's such a big deal for jockeys to give tips. Owners and trainers give tips all the time. Sometimes they win, sometimes they lose.

T.J.Smith was a notorious tipper. He tipped just about every horse that he saddled up. If you followed his tips you would be on the bones of your arse. Gai is pretty much the same.

There's a big difference, in my opinion, between giving someone a tip or doing something dishonest to influence the outcome of a race. If a jockey is riding Horse A and he tells someone that he thinks Horse B will win, there's nothing wrong with that as long as he rides horse A on its merits. Of course, if he has $10,000 on Horse B then that's another matter.

Oh what a cynical world we live in........Aker i goota say i agree with u up to a point, this is definitely not the real aker, only 32 replies in 3 years the real aker could never keep his pie hole shut that much.

i never mention anything about tipping but anyways, Aker the system is getting far more corrupt now, that it has been in the whole of my involvement over 40 odd years. It is becoming organized in its big corrupt pockets. The administrators of the sport dont have the powers they need or maybe even they dont want to dig to deep for fear of what may be exposed, maybe its even the work load or under funded (but we all really know its a "boys club" protecting their resume for their climb up the corprate ladder)........... the trainers know what to do, where to get it, how much to use, when to give it and when not, how to mask it and so much more. This knowledge is not obtained thru trial and error, they are shown, they are told, the chain has a lot of links.
I've been doing this a long time and i'm not that naive to suggest the sport is brought to it's knees, and that we bring all the legends of the game crashing down but they must DRAW A LINE IN THE SAND. to say it will always be there is just not good enough.

I know and Aker knows, that the jockeys talk and yes they do bet.  But betting on other horses in their race, having other jockeys aware that you are having a big bet in the race and offering reward for whatever. Talking on phones to other jockeys about tactics and speed profiles, talking to managers and so called advisors about race maps, having bowlers place the bets and collect for them. the chain has a lot of links.

And now we come to the betting juggernauts, the corporate organizing and controlling of the whole betting industry. You just mark my words, in 5 years, 90% of all race and sports betting in Australia will be managed by 4 companies and maybe even a duopoly, unless safe guards are taken. This is a corruption with a different head, this is the Gordon Gekko of the betting industry. This is where the blind eyes turn from because this is where the money trail starts, this is where the laws and investigation powers must be the strongest, and a national body needs to have powers. The crimes we are talking about ALWAYS HAVE A MONEY TRAIL.

Aker, anyone who says "where there is money there will always be corruption, so get on with it", may be described as a realist or a spin doctor, or maybe even "in on the rort". Whatever your motives are, or opinions are you are free to write, but to condone corruption so an industry can flourish doesnt fit will with me.

but hey after 4years and 30 odd replies, i'm glad it has brought u out of the closet.

please forgive the grammar (aimed at DA) its late and my drug of choice is at its highest Crazy

As for the 2nd paragraph you wrote, what makes me so correct? well if you weren't such an idiot and didn't exhibit such poor integrity, maybe I wouldn't come across that way.

You'd turn over more then me would you? I got no doubt you're a mug punter, that's not to say that i'm not either but I will tell you what, let's just say for the sake of the argument that you did turn over more then me, what the **** kind of importance does that hold within the current discussion? There's 2 possible ways of going about it:

you turn over more then me, that means?

I turn over more then you, that means?

either way it doesn't mean **** all in the scheme of things, you're obviously a prepubescent 18-21 year old punk or you wouldn't care to try debate that point, that's your ego trying to come to the fore because let's be honest, in every other facet of this argument you've been sat square on your fat ass.

You hardly post because you're too busy eh, too busy. Yet you decide to walk on in to this thread and post some of the most self-inflicting humiliating things I have ever read in a public forum, you bought all this onto yourself, you were probably under the effect of some sort of substance of beverage when you posted because I don't believe one person could be so stupid as I have already said but you can't sit here and look down on others just because you're "in the know", if you are in the know, that's fine.. each to their own but you can't belittle others because they're not.

There is a thin veil that wofts through the Racing industry... Why is it that all the good apprentices go through Gai's stable at one point or another... is she just being nice?

Why don't we have accurate times taken at every meeting... We can spend 150million on a Grandfknstand but we can't have proper in race sectionals popping up every 200m?

Because they don't want punters getting savvy to times... They don't want punters knowing that those Horses in that race didn't have a fkn hope.

fk me, imagine if Dunaden led ffs, after settling near last in the Caufield Cup and braining them, is someone going to tell me that would of been the right thing to do? would've raised more questions then doubts

it's horse racing, races need to be run to suit, the only place they don't need to be run to suit is in England because they always have pace on because of pacemakers, you already know what is going to happen, who will lead etc.. everyone knew Glencadam Gold was going to lead, any decent punter with any clue should have also known he would try make it a walk up front so that he could kick on the bend and win it, they walked and an on speed horse won the race, it's not rocket science

one was hughie on mourayan ... whose horse had won the 2500m bart cummings by leading throughout

my quest for peace .. corey .. whose horse had won big ones in the Uk leading them

jimbo on maluckyday ... whose horse won the city tatts club cup by jumping first then running just off the pace throughout

all the highest credentialled nsw jocks for some reason mistook the pace and gai's runner got away with murder up front

the official clock said they ran the last 600m of a melb cup in ...  34.07  ... fs lol

i don't buy into the conspiracy in the cup ... but for mine GW luckily seemed to jag a pace cartel lookalike rort up front ... and

It shouldn't be an argument about how many jockeys pull horses & how often.

The fact is that some corruption is obviously occurring with jockeys betting against their mounts or laying on BF through agents. This should never occur and for the integrity of the industry harsh penalties need to be handed out to anyone caught doing so. I would be disappointed if DO didnt get 2 years. Any lesser penalty sends to wrong message.

Ed .. "so you expect two races to run exactly the same way, **** me dead if it was that easy we'd all be rich"

This statement explains your total lack of Racing comprehension, lol

Answer..No Ed I don't but I expect the Jock to ride it similarly to the way when it won last start..ie as in "ridden to time" not position...You just don't get it hey... No hard feelings Ed.. But just for the record ..I can remember Danehill telling you to pull your head in over some MOANS from you about certain rides?...of course Dane was right ..and you were totally wrong lol.

also, how does it explain my "lack of comprehension", you're the mug who expected them to roll along in the Melbourne Cup when it was plain as day for all to see Glencadam Gold was going to walk up front, just like he did in all his wins leading into the Caufield Cup

http://au.news.yahoo.com/vic/latest/a/-/article/15374841/police-closing-in-on-les-samba-killer/

Police are closing in on a suspect in the murder of former Sydney horse trainer Les Samba and are focussing on a gangland figure with links to shadowy racing identities, according to the Herald Sun.

The paper says the criminal has a history of violence stretching over more than two decades and is known to be a big gambler.

It said the man has been connected to allegedly corrupt racing identities, AFL footballers and some of Melbourne's most feared criminals.

He was also linked to the Moran crime family in the years before all its main male players were wiped out in Melbourne's underworld war.

it seems the Samba murder may bring racing to its knee's, the phone taps that were put in place have uncovered a pandora's box of corruption within the racing industry

So Ollie gets 9 months. Shinn got 15months which i think was later reduced. One bets furiously over a 2 year period with turnover around 1-2 million but with no evidence he bet against his own mounts, the other has 1 bet against his own mount.................which has committed the biggest crime?

Ollie made around 350k last season, with at least one third being made in a one month period (which he wont miss with a sentence of 9 months)........are these penalties really a big enough deterrent. If in HK this blokes would have got 5 years or a jail sentence, now that sends a strong message...but 9 months, how do u make them shiver in their boots with such a slap on the wrist, surely giving them an extended holiaday to lay around and spend there winnings isnt the answer
Report nickw • November 20, 2012 5:40 AM GMT
yes agree logroller
Report Thebas • November 20, 2012 5:53 AM GMT
agree re HK guys ... that style of justice is there to keep em in check

but with ollie vs shinn ... only as an overview not a justification ... one was apparently habitual turning over between $100k and $200k every week over a 2 year period ... the other had a one-off (let's assume at this stage) of just $10k

how stupid is ollie .. or was it some form of depression etc

who doesn't know that digital phones can be tracked

who would phone from inside a jockeys room

who on $300k eanings per annum would risk it all and take the chance of being caught by backing against your own mount ... for what ... about $12½k ???

none of it makes any sense or rationality

9 months from race riding ... plus a psyche assessment ... and quick on the 2nd one ... person at risk for mine
Report nickw • November 20, 2012 5:54 AM GMT
9 months would have been fine if it hard started a month ago

they like soft targets

slap on wrist. Stewards appear to have no intention of stamping out this activity.

If this was a lawyer committing fraud or a pharmicist providing unapproved drugs then they would never work in their profession again.

It is time that they introduced penalties such as 2year first offence & lifetime 2nd offence. Jockeys that want to punt should find another job.
Report Thebas • November 20, 2012 5:59 AM GMT
2year first offence & lifetime 2nd offence

sounds about right ... if they are serious in stamping it out

out of interest ... can a registered jockeys manager have a punt ?
Report Kye • November 20, 2012 6:11 AM GMT
Jockey managers or any third parties is a problem. I have no opinion on whether they should be allowed to punt however i think that the offence for jockeys should include any third party putting bets on for jockeys or providing a finincial benefit for jockeys to give tips as that really is the same as the jockey betting.
Report Joel • November 20, 2012 6:17 AM GMT
Maybe all jockeys should be forced to bet on their own mounts, that way they should all be trying Excited
Report Thebas • November 20, 2012 6:24 AM GMT
providing a finincial benefit for jockeys to give tips

yep ... that's the HK model ...

but ollie ... i mean ffs ... did he plan that bet for a week in advance ... or was it just a last minute thing sitting in the jockey's room

greed or a form of madness ... i suppose its all the same in the end

we call the jocks monkeys ... as a joke ... but in fact it is very much monkey behaviour

stealing a banana when one of your tribe is looking the other way

we've come a long way as a species ... in a million years ... not lol  Sad

reminds me a bit of Key Largo

Bogie has to work out what his captor Edward G wants

so Bogie he says to Edward ... "i know what you want"

Edward G is fascinated ... "What is it .. what di want ?"

and Bogie tells him "What you want is ..... more ... "

well Edward G's eyes light up like a fkn beacon ... glowing ...  "yes" he says "that's it,    I want MORE"

..........  2 yrs first offence ... life ban 2nd offence might just be the only way

Joel i like your idea.

How did he have a mobile phine 5mins before race? I wouldnt have thought they were allowed in jockeys room.

i dont think you have to go with HK model & jail them but at least suspend their licence.

a once off spur of the moment decisionLaughLaugh

The arranged outcome was damage control aimed at the general public, not die hard punters.

Allowed to ride over the carnival.
"He had only ever had the one bet."
"Gave himself up."
"personal problems"

Will return next year repentent with the right spin, and who knows, again ride the favourite in the Cup.
