In a secret dossier handed to the 3 racing codes a new format will slowly change the way the 3 codes are viewed. No longer will there be a race caller, instead the numbers(saddlecloth) will constantly appear and change as to the positions. The dossier states that it will cut expenditure by some $5 million (combined codes)The small data chip fitted in the saddlecloth and used as a trial will relay the horses position. in a gathered finished outcome the numbers will change rapidly but the instant the horses hit the finish line the camera will do what its always done.
The Race Caller will no longer be required while the vision continues a series of small adverts will appear in strategic positions across the screen. The reliance on sound will be increased with a series Beeps ,similar to your family Microwave indicating the start of the event. In a complete overhaul Harness and Greyhound will have Rolling Adverts (As with AFL venues)positioned around the outer circumference of the track, also trialled to see the effect of Horse/Greyhound been distracted they were found to cause no interference.
The changes have a projected $25 million revenue stream in the 1st year combined with no Race Caller at some 25 venues per day and increasing the demand by advertisers to have their product exposed in varying ways and for longer than the standard 30sec format. The Dossier came as a result of Media ownership & Wagering companies looking to the future, the new generations will have easier access via smart phone technology. The Home/Tab outlet/Venue(Racetrack) viewer will still have vision but with numbers only during the race to indicate positions Also catered for are the Sight Impaired, they will have access to a control on remotes that will have a series of sounds aligned with a number to allow the person to know the positions.
The future might have a G1 race been run concurrently to background sounds of Mozart and Mcdonalds.
Apparently they will use the Phone Technology so you will hear this automated 2,4,8,12,3 etc and will be robotised Race2 NSW Grey etc Beep 2,1.2,1,5,3 Beep result 1,5,3

well this data chip should be able to provide sectional & time based data per horse
no doubt this will be uppermost in thr minds of racing's controller's ... rather than just the money they can save by making caller's redundant
news flash .. don't hold your breath

What a load of garbage. They cant even get the running order on the screen with chips in the saddlecloth or even times of the race or sectionally correct . Will never happen. Laughable

I always have the sound on mute, when Tim Edwards is calling in SA.
The only thing I would miss with no caller, would be the sectional times. I guess they could always pop up on the screen.

Tim has no idea how fast they are travelling. If he says they are flying, the quarter will come up in 33.0 and vice versa.
Met him a couple of times, and a decent enough guy.

I doubt this, sure the technology will be great, but racecallers will always be needed, they are not there to tell you the order of races they are there to entertain, silence does not entertain.

lol, theres no racing without callers;)...or is that betting??....
There will always be a place for callers ALONGSIDE the long overdue makeover of the racing codes

Racing doesn't need to spend money on fancy hi-tech solutions in order to make race callers redundant. They just need to do what all other Australian Corporations and companies do, replace them with Indians.

Proposed something similar to NSWHRC about 7 years back ... not taken up on the basis of $$$$$
The $$$$$ have been available for some time now .... ?
TAB will determine which way they go I guess.
Way too logical to be adopted in the near future.Proposed something similar to NSWHRC about 7 years back ... not taken up on the basis of $$$$$The $$$$$ have been available for some time now .... ?TAB will determine which way they go I guess.
I believe that race callers are currently salaries. Probably the hardest sporting gig to do, yet little reward on the big scale of sports commentary. Probably why McAvaney and Rabs gave it away. Hadley as well and the list goes on. Good chat though.

Racing isn't just about betting, strange as that may seem. For the $1 and $2 punters it's about cheap entertainment. When the codes figure out their 1 million nickel and dime punters like a caller they will reinstate them, I reckon. That's assuming they don't already know that. Surely, they need an on course caller anyway. Otherwise, what's the point of going to the track? Are you going to peer into the distance to see who's running where? If all I am getting is beeps I can do that from home and with a better view.
