If the Greens were to support in-play betting on sports in this country, would that alone be enough for you to vote Green at the next Federal Election?

yes.... my vote comes fairly cheaply but i'd vote for the purples second and third also if they ban corps from banning.

The best chance to get the law changed, is for Abbott to win with a majority in the Senate. That puts the Greens and the Independants out of the frame.

The lobbyists from the Tabs and Bookies, will then get to work, and we should see a change within Abbott's first term.
Report clever-girl August 20, 2012 1:35 AM BST
That wasn't anything to do with my question Castrion.

Report Castiron August 20, 2012 1:40 AM BST
That is never going to happen, TQ.

Much easier for the lobbyists, to deal with the Liberal Party. They have been doing it successfully, for a hundred years.
Report clever-girl August 20, 2012 1:49 AM BST
If it did happen, would you vote Green?
Report Castiron August 20, 2012 2:01 AM BST
Are you saying, if they supported Gillard on the vote now, would I vote them at the next election, or would I vote for them, if they went to the next election with it as part of their policy ?
Report clever-girl August 20, 2012 2:05 AM BST

Report Castiron August 20, 2012 2:14 AM BST
It is an important issue for me as I like to bet on cricket inplay.

So I would consider it, but probably unlikely.

Sorry, I can't be more decisive.
Report clever-girl August 20, 2012 2:18 AM BST
That's okay Castrian.

I don't know if you know how the Greens work, but the politicians are only the figureheads of the membership. It's the membership that decides the policies.

If the right argument can be put forward I don't think it's an impossibility.
Report silverunderwear August 20, 2012 4:18 AM BST
It'd influence me to vote for them, Labor looks to have lost the plot but the mad monk and his monastic mob doesn't look a particulatly attractive alternative.

The voting day's too* far away to say "yes I would"

Woe, surrounded by "best of a bad bunch" choices.

(*Now that is my nightmare grammer bit, damned if I really know when to use "to" or "too")
Report clever-girl August 20, 2012 4:20 AM BST

Greens are by far the most anti gambling party. Heard their spokesman say gamblers should be drugged to take away the thrill of backing a winner.
Report clever-girl August 20, 2012 8:25 AM BST
How is that answering my question Jibba Jabba?

I'm a punter/trader, I love it and I'd hate to not have it in my life, and I'm a member of the Greens.

Abbott said that every computer is a casino.....in play has zero hope of passing his 'NO' TEST.
Report Jibba Jabba August 20, 2012 8:34 AM BST
Sorry. My answer would be yes but I price that happening at a million to one
Report AFL August 20, 2012 8:44 AM BST
Sorry also CG.....my answer is no, if as you said the vote was based on that policy alone.

That's not to say I wouldn't vote for them anyway.

You guys will compromise your values pretty cheaply. I would not change my vote just because I want in play and the greens might give me that.
There are too many reason not to vote greens.
Report Rogue_Trader1 August 20, 2012 1:41 PM BST
CG trying on a mini poll??

I vote Greens these days anyway, would be a yes for me.

Hate Gillard, didn't earn it. Australia's worst ever PM, what an absolute joke!
Report Rogue_Trader1 August 20, 2012 1:45 PM BST
CG, I ask you a few questions

what % chance are we of getting inplay prior to the end of this year?
what % chance are we of getting inplay next year?
what % chance are we of getting inplay in a coalition govt?
Report Castiron August 20, 2012 9:29 PM BST
The best chance of it happening, is for Abbott to win, with a majority in the Senate.

The gambling lobbyists will be knocking on his door, the day after the election.

Take little notice of what the Liberal Party is saying now. They automatically take the contrary view of Government.
Report Jimmyboy August 26, 2012 6:26 AM BST
I wouldn't vote Greens since they're no chance of winning my seat, and they're hippies anyway. All that matters is that Gillard gets voted out (which she will) and some of the damage she's inflicted can be reversed (which is unlikely). Hopefully then we'll see some movement on the in-play front, but it's been "12 months away" from a law change" for the past 5 years.
Report wombleoz August 26, 2012 6:42 AM BST
Castiron - Labor supports giving in-play a go, Abbott has said no (is anyone surprised???) it would be a pretty clear backflip on his part to support it so pretty unlikely imo

The only way it would get through is if Labor and The Greens back it - unlikely but as TQ says, the membership of The Greens decide the policies so if a good enough argument can be made it is some chance
Report Castiron August 26, 2012 10:05 AM BST

I believe Abbott will change his mind on many things, once he is elected. The Libs are not doing this for any moralistic reason.

Remember this is a party that still accepts donations from the tobacco industry.
