As long as feder , djokovic, nadal are fit and healthy, Murray will never win a slam. As predicted crumbled under the relentless pressure and iron will of arguably the greatest grasscourt player of all time, the imperious Roger Federer. The easiest money I've made for a long time climbing on the fed express after he graciously let Murray win the first set. Mentally weak drops his head, challenges petutantly when balls are clearly in or out, looks up at his box seemingly as if to say how unlucky he isoh my ankle, hip, groin hurts,an outstanding front runner in a nation of sporting front runner, heart, no guts, no. and then on top of everything else he breaks down and blubbery like a baby after he loses.

Choked when it mattered most, its as simple as that and has little intestinal fortitude, you lot are like pack of performing seals  with your pathetic support for eanother perennial loser in the same mould as henman rather than appllauding the genius of Roger Federer, it's very poor sportsmanship to blubber and carry on in public in that manner when you've lost but I nothing expected nothing less fhough from that snivelling tennis "great" Murray and surprise, surprise, he never let us down.

From the moment Nadal, djokovic and Tsonga were gone it was always the imperious one's tournament, Murray even had the advantage of a rain delay to interrupt Federer's momentum when he was right on top and he wasn't good enough to rejig his game and take advantage of it.

Has blown a golden opportunity to win Wimbledon and will struggle to recover mentally from the tennis master class that the maestro handed out.

The book is out now on Murray, hammer his second serve and he falls to pieces, same old Murray when the heats turned on,  he melts and was lucky to get past baghdatis and tsonga in the first place.
If tsonga's game goes to the 5th he wins  and would have given federer more headaches than Murray did as unlike Murray tsonga never dies wondering and is importantly gracious loser and winner, can't say the same for Murray.

Tomic is inexperienced and isn't expected to win everything and he will learn and needs to grow up a bit and is still very young but Murray is at his peak, doesn't listen to his coach who is trying to help him and then blames everyone else but himself for his own inadequacies and don't even get me started on his body language , if youre at the other  end of the court you know you've got inside his head and half the battle is already won when he carries on like that, it show hims up to be a front running petulant sook.

Until he eliminates that from his mentality he will never be a regular winner at the very elite level.

You watch Nadal when he plays if he drops his serves against Federer etc he redoubles his efforts and throw absolutely everything at him, Murray didn't do that once, he won the first set so instead of going on the attack he went into his shell something that lendl has been desperately trying to drum out of him but Murray refuses to listen, he may as well not have lendl coaching him if that's the case.
Report BJT July 9, 2012 7:04 AM BST
I fail to see how that is choking though.  He played the best, was never expected to win, never favourite leading up to the game.

sofia, we have had 4 different grand slam winners in the last 25 years in singles events, UK hasn't won a grand slam probably in your life time with near triple the population.

This whole us vs them crap is boring though really.  Australia have just come from one of the most dominant sporting prowess in history over a huge range of sports.
Cricket (most dominant team in history in a sport played by billions), Rugby, swimming, hockey even.  Have popups in Tennis singles, and one of the most dominant duos ever to play doubles.
Even Pole Vault ffs.  I didn't even realise we did that in this country yet still top of the food chain.

When you have such a period of domination, there is only one way to go.  Really sad that all the UK has is that we are now no longer unbeatable.  But history repeats.  Just look at cricket.  Australia keeps popping up as unbeatable.  England have only ever been just another side.  Australia will rise again to the top, and England will continue to be mediocre and happy to be simply be in front for a little while.

Either way, I wasn't involved in any of the wins.  I am sure nobody posting on this forum was involved in any of it.  So who really cares?  Seriously, claiming Australian sport is **** because our cricket team couldn't keep the most dominant team in history going very deep into the second decade just makes you look foolish.
Report Lets Elope July 9, 2012 7:13 AM BST
Not to mention Hewitt has won Davis Cup's and came from two sets down against the imperious one federer in a Davis cup tie in perhaps his most famous victory that allowed Australia to advance to the Davis Cup final, invariably when he gets knocked out of a slam its usually by the ultimate winner of that slam, the amount of times that has occurred is amazing. He's battled injury after injury in the latter stages of his career and still bounces back time and time again oh and there' s the little matter of being world No.1 for nearly two years maybe slightly more, maybe slightly less I can't quite remember exactly, something that Murray will never attain or be able to maintain for that long a period.
During that time not once has Lleyton ever chucked in the towel and put up the white flag in the manner that Murray does, and he probably doesn't posses anywhere the weapons that Murray does but unlike Murray he has the heart of a warrior and heart, guts, determination and an iron will and a ferocious work ethic can take you a hell of a long way.

If Murray had anything resembling Hewitt's heart he would be a champion as he clearly has the tools but is mentally weak and has consistently crumbled throughout his career when the acid is put on him.

Report Lets Elope July 9, 2012 7:30 AM BST
We have got a young bloke who currently plays with a  plus 5 handicap meaning in case you don't know that if it's a 72 par course he has to go around in 67 to shoot par.

The only other amateur in history to have that handicap prior to turning pro is a handy player by the name of Tiger Woods!

You may see this young guy at this years Australian Open as an amateur if things go according to plan, if not he'll be there in the very near future and know I'm not giving up his name, you'll find out soon enough.

Tennis Australia was asleep on the job for many years and we lost a generation maybe two of players but they're starting to come through now and Rafter is guiding a number of young prospects who will flow through over the next five to ten years.

Luke Saville and the couple of good young girls starting to come through now are the tip of the iceberg.

From everything I've heard he's a real down to earth kid as well, plays with older equipment doesn't need the latest technology and doesn't think the sun shines out of his rear end like some of them do.
Report BJT July 9, 2012 8:46 AM BST
Well, from what I have read, the way golfers are rated are changing, and plus 5 doesn't really mean what it used to.
Greg Normans comparison still placed him >+7 on tour at his peak.  It all depends on the course, the course rating, and the cards you hand in.
Could be very well that this guy has a +5 handicap, and it could well be that he is very good, but it could also mean he is on a hot streak at a course he plays every tournament at.

Basically, if he was that good on every course in the world, he would still be giving away 12 shots a tournament to Tiger at his best.  But the reality is he is probably playing on courses not up to scratch on the world stage, definately not courses that would be attracting world class players.

Report Lets Elope July 9, 2012 9:58 AM BST
Plays regularly on course regarded as being extremely difficult and that's plus 5 as an amateur like I said only one other player in history has had that ranking and that's Tiger.

Lets not digress from the topic which is the fact that Murray coughed it up again when it really mattered as predicted, mind you I didn't have to be or anyone else didn't have to exactly be a Rhodes Scholar to work out that was always going to happen.
Report BJT July 9, 2012 10:28 AM BST
Yes, but you are false in your assessment that this guy being +5 is on a par with Tiger.  Plenty more have had better than that.
You are comparing a handicap of when Tiger started playing under a different system, and merely using the scores.  A comparative handicap under the current system, shows that many players have a better handicap, and Tigers was much greater.

Or please quote where you are getting your information from because I am claiming it to be false.

you aussies run us ragged as a sporting country - there is no contest ,it's laughable to compare the two - even i will say that .

but why ?

well, for 6 months of the year we have around 6-9 hours of daylight (that's around 1 or 2 hours at best after most people finish work)
it's drizzly or rainy on and off and very unpredictable - one minute sun ,the next a downpour ...unlike the dry conditions you experience in east and west  australia  .

now imagine , it's November-February  - it's the normal light drizzle ,pitch black and it's 5pm in the afternoon after leaving school and finishing homework /dinner .

you're hardly going to hit the park with a cricket bat and a set of torches .Wink

you have much more dayligh tfor sporting  activities -  the other thing about our facilities is the cost ,to hire out a football pitch/tennis court under lights  is expensive

you have  a massive advantage

Well done to Murray, he finally found some much need mental toughness, as had previously said he already had the physical tools, albeit not having had to play a fit nadal or Federer, Tsonga etc and with Djokovic just having come off his final with him and del potro trading blows for 4 and 3/4 hours in a match now widely acknowledged as the best ever seen in modern Wimbledon history and with Djokovic in last night's final having never made so many unforced errors in a big match but hey enjoy your victory, I suppose 90 odd years without a mens single winner is long enough.

Lets see if he can actually get to No. 1 and then hold that ranking for nearly two years the way lleyton did.

Yeah a real shocker,I backed lisicki at 40's (prior to her upsetting Williams and have backed lisicki throughout the tournament and had already won a poultice on her) for the final and layed off during the match so bartoli was still a nice result and on the mens final I actually made a slight cop in the end on last nights betting having already done some money on del potro, tomic and jerzy yeah I'm having a shocker, wish I could have a monster week and go this badly every week.

In the end a very minor loss on the mens tournament winner about $350 odd on Murray.
