Had to go into ATO website recently and stumbled onto tax cuts page. Curiously , it's been called part of clean energy ( Agenda 21 - TheBas and Lazza ) policy.....but the teeth is:
Main Points:
Tax free threshold moves to 18,200
1st Marginal tax rate moves to 19% (from 15%) bet 18,200 -$ 37,000
2nd Marginal tax rate moves to 32.5% ( from 30%) 37,000 - $ 80,000
Low Income tax offset cut from 1500 to $ 445
Done some simple calculations:
$40,000 is 11.36% tax rate
$50,000 is 15.6% tax rate
$ 60,000 is 18.36% tax rate
Throwing in GST on end consumers ( which can be controlled by households somewhat) re : consumption
and Carbon tax laid on from July , possible suggest aussie households at a guess would pay approx 25-30% in taxes going to Fed gov't , State Gov't , United Nations etc , which with a bit of guesswork ,equates as purely cost of living in tax terms at 30% of Gross Incomes.
That's without rents, mortgages etc loaded in. Fk me .....Long live Betty
if we can afford to gamble we can afford to live imo
we are used to rises over here in the west, under Barnett cost of living has gone up 58 per cent, even tho he suggests we dont use air con.. meanwhile he has spent millions upon millions on a new palace for himself and his team of spin doctors..and yes the palace has air con..

wombleoz - trying to sound out exactly how well politically, Barnett is doing in WA eh?
And you sum up the Premier of WA by saying he "sounds annoying - very annoying"........WTF?
Was only a few weeks ago you stated he is "gone". LOL. You've got no ****ing idea, I'd suggest. To busy hugging trees and thinking up new taxes with Bob etc.
Colin Barnett and the Liberal team in WA will be re-elected, wombleoz - and you will remain a minority.
You are so out of touch wombleoz, ffs

This is a great big Carbon Tax. The world's biggest Carbon Tax.
You didn't vote for it, but your gonna pay for it.
You might receive $1.20 per week extra in your pocket with a tax cut, but you'll pay when you fill up the car, you'll pay when you buy food to put on the table, you'll pay for the kids school clothes, you'll pay when get the chance to get away (air travel).....you'll PAY FOR THIS GREAT BIG NEW TAX ON EVERYTHING.
And that's not to mention gas, electricity and on and on it goes? Electricity price rises of 250%....can you afford it ?
These $200 cash bonus' will last a week, littlelone cover next quarters electricity bill. The tax cuts will be lucky to get you a can of coke from the corner store. These aren't free lunches as wombleoz and AFL will suggest - they're to COMPENSATE for this great big tax.
Only one way to get rid of this Carbon Tax and this lying PM...... change the government.
Great thread AP.It shows what a con this is.This is a great big Carbon Tax. The world's biggest Carbon Tax.You didn't vote for it, but your gonna pay for it.You might receive $1.20 per week extra in your pocket with a tax cut, but you'll pay when yo
As long as the Libs/Nats don't win federally I don't really care what happens in WA - but if he keeps telling people to stop using air conditioning it'll be closer than many think
Just heard Peter Van Olsen talking up how significant the change to the tax free threshold is
spot on though, 1 million people will no longer need to lodge and will get to take all their pay home every week

I noticed there was no mention from you in the other thread. Surprise surprise.
Too busy digging a deeper hole in the sand for you to wedge your head.

The world's biggest carbon tax - and no environment impact.
Electricity price rises - and no environment impact.

Petrol price rises - and no environment impact.
Food price rises - and no environment impact.
Clothes price rises - and no environment impact.
your overall cost of living price RISES - - and no environment impact.
We didn't VOTE FOR IT, but WE'LL PAY FOR IT.
This is not about sprouting rubbish, wombleoz. It's about standing up and demanding a government be accountable. About demanding the Prime Minister stand by HER WORD. It's about the citizens being able to have faith in those in public office.
This is about real people wombleoz. Genuine Australian's trying to get ahead. They don't spend their days sipping lattes on Toorak Road, instead they stack shelves at Woolies. Move bricks on building sites. And at the end of the day go home and attend to feeding their families.
We need to stop this Carbon Tax. The only way is to the change the government.

Changing gears lads a bit....Womble and Jez...I appeal to you both can you communicate to your respective policy development think tanks and get some bi-partisan approach on:
1. Get negative gearing removed from the housing area
Will do two things : Burst the Housing bubble to create a "true" housing market and will avoid the unnecessary continuous lies that we have a housing shortage and will bring the cost of housing to affordable levels that isn't influenced by Investors looking to make a quick buck and artificially inflating prices which keeps the house of cards standing.
May as well do it on this Labour watch ....will give them a platform to build from again and Gillard and Swan will , in time , be remembered as labour heroes in years to come.

AP - agree 100% negative gearing has to change, middle and upper class "welfare" at it's worst but no government will be game to touch it
They should change it this budget so that from now you can only use it on new properties - or limit the number of properties you can claim losses for. Keating did try to make changes a while back and rents surged - that's the risk

Never before have a heard a lone voice (wombleoz) preach such utter nonsense. Such diatribe that is so hilariously out of touch with everyday Australia.
Well you and your little buddy's are about to taught a lesson in democracy.
Australian's don't like liars as Prime Minister's. Julia's right about one thing, the next election will be about trust.
Australian's also hate this hung parliament "experiment".
You say you've got time wombleoz, in the supposed 18 months til the next election.
Yes you do have time, time to savour each and every dying second of this Gillard Labor-Green Government. A government that will be a blip in the history books. A scaring experiment involving two pathetic Labor leaders who continue to trade blows and a centre-left party that has lost its way and its soul.
Sadly it's taken the country along for this heart wrenching ride.
Well can I say it's time to get Australia back on track. Time to listen to the MAJORITY not the MINORITY.
There's only ONE WAY. Queenslander's know how.
It's to CHANGE THE GOVERNMENT.
Of course your loving it wombleoz.Because your a minority. As working Australian's and families hurt....You and your fellow minorities, dictate to the majority.Taxes....Lying leaders....Wealth redistribution....Never before have a heard a lone voice (

from - http://blogs.crikey.com.au/pollbludger/2012/04/10/newspoll-quarterly-breakdown-2/
The Australian today brings us Newspoll’s regular quarterly breakdown of its federal polling by state, sex and age group. Compared with the last quarter of 2011, it finds Labor gained a point to lead 51-49 in South Australia, was steady at 50-50 in Victoria, cut the Coalition lead in New South Wales to 54-46 from 57-43 (59-41 in the July to September quarter), and took a point out of the still enormous Coalition leads in Queensland and Western Australia, which are now at 58-42 and 56-44. The Coalition’s two-party lead in the five main capitals is steady at 53-47 and down from 57-43 to 55-45 elsewhere.

Is this your brand new, you beaut, definition for "momentum" is it wombleoz.
Coalition only leads in 2PP terms in NSW by 8 points...rather than 14 points. An annihilation rather than a blood letting exercise???

18 point lead becomes 8 in 9 months of BOF - on that basis Labor will be well in front by the election
Greens pretty well guaranteed to maintain the balance of power in the senate for a long time to come

How will these tax cuts benefit Australian's if they lose their job in manufacturing tomorrow...due to the Carbon Tax?
Or if they lose their job in mining tomorrow...due to the Carbon Tax?
Or if they lose their job in the retail sector tomorrow...due to the Carbon Tax?
Lets be clear and honest here. The Carbon Tax will result in job losses. "operational requirements." ...." changing economic circumstances"... "divisional restructuring".
For every 4 industry jobs lost, 1 Green job will be created.
Jobs have already been lost with the Carbon Tax on the horizon.
Again, how on earth will tax cuts and pension compensation assist me if I'm out of work?
Back to the topic of tax cuts.Hey AP.Answer this for me.How will these tax cuts benefit Australian's if they lose their job in manufacturing tomorrow...due to the Carbon Tax?Or if they lose their job in mining tomorrow...due to the Carbon Tax?Or if t

Yes Joel, whatever you say Joel, ffs.
So your politically inept enough to believe an 18 point lead would flow on at an election? Maybe in Queensland at the moment, but no where else. We all know the polls tighten during a campaign. But the momentum is all one way. The issues are all anti-Labor.
Australian's are fed up with Labor. Same horse, different jockey.
You can spew your nonsense throughout this forum wombleoz, but its just that, nonsense. It's desperate drivel with no factual basis.
Your one of the few within the Labor camp that they refer to as "delusional". Most of the hard heads realise the reality.
This is a government that isn't interested in winning the next election. They just are coasting to see it out, hoping, wishing and praying they don't do any more damage to brand Labor - any more damage that could render it (if not already) terminal.

iHoot - just out of interest - what "extreme" things have the Greens done since getting the balance of power in the Senate???
the other crucial figure - people don't like Abbott or Gillard, will they vote for him???
Both leaders were down three on approval in New South Wales, Julia Gillard to 29 per cent and Tony Abbott to 33 per cent, but Abbott was up five in Queensland to 40 per cent. Abbott took a knock in Western Australia to be down five on approval to 31 per cent and up three on disapproval to 56 per cent. Preferred prime minister was essentially unchanged, although a shift in Gillard’s favour in South Australia – from 40-33 to 44-32 – pokes its head above the margin of error.

Tony Abbott is the Opposition Leader. He has ratings similar to Fraser prior to defeating Whitlam. Fraser's numbers skyrocketed after the election.
Fraser was, unfortunately, negative in his approach. Abbott is relentless, some will see this as negativity. But his approach is exposing this government - tearing it apart, piece by piece.
Opposition is not easy. Tony Abbott's task is not to be popular, but to present a credible alternative. An Abbott Government will repeal the Carbon Tax.
Rudd was an Opposition Leader with instantaneous popularity, and where did he finish?
I'd love a Labor campaign on Abbott, a personal anti-Abbott campaign. It won't work. But I have no doubt they'll try. Though, maybe Qld will put them off.
Will they vote for Abbott???
Yes they will, wombleoz.
He came within a whisker of defeating this government in 2010 ffs.
This time round, the Australian people won't miss.

I think you are referring to ALL taxes, rather than personal taxes.
The Australian system of taxation and welfare is already the most efficient at redistributing wealth from rich to poor of any country in the OECD (and has been for many years), so there really is no need for changes. It is a testement to the generally "social" attitude of the vast majority of Australian society.

Read this article wombleoz, "efficiency" can be used as a relative term. The system itself may not be efficient overall, but it can be relatively efficient when compared to other systems.
This can also be applied to gambling. If you are able to calculate probability on sporting outcomes more efficiently than the rest of the market, you will win.
