Labor hold a vast number of seats across the state by small margins after the last election.

The Liberal National Party in Queensland is led by Campbell Newman who does not hold a seat in Parliament.
However he will contest the seat of Ashgrove against former Minister, Kate Jones.
I'm predicting the election will be called on Monday 23rd January, therefore allowing the Bligh Government to avoid the late February release of the report in the Queensland floods and who was responsible, etc.

Yesterday, Queenslanders looked to the future by embracing the Liberal National Party.
They chose real action, over the relentless negativity and spin from Bligh Labor.
And what a stunning result. Wow.
The ALP may yet struggle to achieve party status in the Queensland Parliament.
Campbell Newman ran a fine campaign with a "Can Do" message.
And the efforts of this new LNP Government have started TODAY.
Addressing the cost of living is first priority - with a $330 a year saving for Queenslanders by freezing car rego and cutting the tax on buying a home by stripping away $7000 worth of Labor taxes.
As well as fighting the attack on Queenslander's way of life with Gillard Labor's world's biggest carbon tax (There will be no carbon tax under the government I lead) and the mining taxes.
Queenslander's didn't vote for a carbon tax, but THEY'LL PAY FOR IT.
These are just the first tasks in a long list of repairing Queensland after a decade long decay under Labor.
But the Liberal National Party is ready and raring...
Ready to get Queensland BACK ON TRACK.
It's a clear message to millions of Australian's around the country as they see Labor spanked in Queensland and the clear federal issues that were involved in last nights destruction of Queensland Labor.......

ANNA Bligh has announced her resignation from the Queensland parliament, in yet another startling development for the state Labor Party.
Speaking in Brisbane, the outgoing premier offered her apology to the people of South Brisbane, having previously promised to stay on as member regardless of the outcome.
''Queensland needs an effective opposition and Queensland Labor can only do that if it rebuilds and recovers and renews, and I don't believe they can effectively do that while I'm sitting in their ranks,'' she said.
Ms Bligh refused to speculate on her Labor replacement in once-safe seat.
Ms Bligh ruled out any tilt at politics in the future, saying ''my time in public life - after more than two decades - is well and truly behind me''.
''I don't know what the future holds for me,'' she said.
''I've asked enough of [my family] and I'm not going to ask them any more.''
Ms Bligh said she was under ''absolutely no pressure'' from anyone else to resign.
''This is a decision entirely of my own,'' she said.
Ms Bligh did not back away from her vicious pursuit of Campbell Newman during the campaign over alleged integrity breaches, including his family business connections and relationships with property developers.
''I think they were questions that were important to ask, and I don't resile from them.''
She offered her support for the incoming government to hold a byelection for her seat on the same day as council elections, April 28, but said she would not criticise the LNP if they refused
The by-election will pave the way for Education Minister, Cameron ****, one of the high-profile casualties of the state election rout of Labor, to re-enter parliament and take over as leader from Ms Bligh. Labor insiders predict that Mr **** is the most likely candidate to be parachuted in after he lost his seat of Greenslopes.
But after she only narrowly retained the seat in yesterday's wipeout of Labor the move could backfire and cost the party one of its few remaining places in parliament.

the only federal implication here will be that it just got harder for Abbott to win - with a win of this size it won't be easy for Newman to manage his MP's, let alone the state - I expect lots of squabbling between the Liberals and Nationals over who gets what - I also expect some of the new MP's to make significant gaffs - all of which will hurt the Liberal / National brand
From memory next is actually the ACT, where Labor and the Greens will hold power followed by WA - where Barnett is in danger. Obviously the only one that really mattes is the federal poll and this win by the LNP makes me more confident of a return of the Gillard led government

But these days one could add: "And never stand between a premier and a chance at parochial grandstanding," since even when the dosh is not forthcoming, the opportunity for populist demagoguery remains.
Queensland's Campbell Newman, the new boy at last week's COAG talk fest, is the latest convert to one-eyed populism, as summarised by the Courier-Mail's long-standing banner: "Everything for Queensland" – its unspoken corollary being "and nothing for the rest of Australia".
Newman espouses (or at least claims to) a doctrine of competitive federalism, a belief that the states should vie with each other in every field as ruthlessly as they do in the hyped-up annual football games.
Not for him co-operation, leading to the sort of uniformity demanded by business, politicians, teachers, police forces, employers and unionists at a time when mobility is the norm and Australians are increasingly moving from one end of the country to the other as a necessary and desirable way of life.
No, Newman's state will do things his way, and if the Mexicans south of the Tweed don't like it, well tough.
There are echoes here of the dictum of his demented predecessor, Joh Bjelke–Petersen, who once declared to a bemused London press conference: "There is no such place as Australia. I am the premier of the sovereign state of Queensland and I know whereof I speak."
But at least Joh's rodomontade came some 40 years ago. Newman's was just last week.
The fact is, of course, that state borders are a relic of the 19th century, when bored British public servants passed their time in Whitehall drawing lines on maps of places they had never seen and never wanted to.
One of them noticed that there was a big river about halfway up the east coast, a kind of natural barrier; so he followed it back to its source and kept going west.
The permanence of the state border was enshrined in the British act of parliament which became the Australian constitution. And since then it has been a God-ordained divide, a sacred boundary at which laws, customs and even time zones undergo arbitrary change, cane toads become cockroaches and maroon turns to blue.
It was not meant to be thus: while there was always rivalry and jealousy between the original colonies, in 1901 they were supposed to merge into indissoluble partnership as part of the wider Commonwealth.
But for reasons which have very little to do with genuine diversity and a lot to do with political opportunism, from time to time one or more relapse into fiefdoms ruled by cynical warlords intent on maintaining their own place in the sun at the expense of the national good. Hence, Campbell Newman.
He is, of course, far from unique – merely the most publicly recalcitrant of the current crop. And Julia Gillard's frustration is similarly routine.
Every prime minister in living memory has come to office with glowing promises of an era of peace and solidarity, and all have been stymied, as often by states governed by their own party colleagues as by the opposition; Kevin Rudd's hopes for a Labor era of concord were even less successful than Gillard's aspirations at a time when four of the six states are in enemy hands.
In fact, Gillard, aided by considerable pressure from the business community, has done rather better than anyone expected. Progress has been slow and unspectacular, but steady and reasonably substantial.
Last week's COAG delivered a new deal on funding vocational education including 375,000 new places and a new system of student loans, progress on a plan to remove barriers to skilled workers seeking to move between states, endorsement of the national disability insurance scheme, and an agreement in principle to cut red and green tape for business.
Not bad for what is portrayed by Tony Abbott and his mates in the media as an unworkable and dysfunctional government.
There are, of course, problems: Julia Gillard's grand plan for uniform occupational health and safety laws was knocked back by Victoria and Western Australia, and the ongoing battle over sharing the GST shows no sign of resolution. But the agreements deserved more attention – and congratulation – than they received in the news.
One reason they were down played, of course, was that Bob Brown pre-empted the headlines with the revelation that he was about to leave the Australian Parliament and ascend into heaven, or somewhere similar.
This was certainly news, and surprising news at that, but his instant canonisation by the media came as a far greater shock: was this the same fanatic whose quasi-communist acolytes were dedicated to the destruction of the family and the overthrow of Western civilisation? The crazed ideologue who would send us all back to the caves?
Well, yes, apparently; suddenly the mild-mannered Tasmanian was now to be revered as an exceptional politician; honest, charismatic, and overwhelmingly successful.
Well, up to a point. There is no doubt that Brown, more than any other single person, has been responsible for making environmental issues part of mainstream politics, and this is a considerable achievement.
But in terms of actual legislation, his political legacy rests mainly on the carbon tax – unquestionably good public policy, but an albatross around Julia Gillard's neck which looks set to drag her from office and install Tony Abbott, the sworn enemy of everything the Greens hold dear.
And in the process the Greens may well become politically sidelined; Brown's successors as their leaders, starting with the abrasive Christine Milne, face a huge task both in replacing Brown as the party's public face and in holding its factions together.
They may succeed, but if they do, it will be at the political expense of the Labor Party, which in turn will serve to entrench the conservatives in power – exactly what the rank and file greenies don't want.
And meanwhile, all Julia Gillard and her colleagues can do is keep plugging away, receiving no credit for their efforts. There must be times when they envy Bob Brown. Or even Campbell Newman.
Things are so much simpler for them.

Max Tomlinson, the then media adviser to Liberal National Party Senator Ian Macdonald, wrote to Dr Carole Ford after she penned a newspaper column criticising the lack of female representation in Queensland's parliament.

I have just read your pathetic piece in the Courier-Mail. While I generally ignore the bleatings of sourpusses like you, your piece was so depressing and negative that I was moved to find your email address and simply say: Get a life.
The world would be a better place if people like you stood for political preselection and learned the hard way that ability is not measured by chromosomes.
Question: Why don't you have a go? Answer: Like most women, you probably don't possess the necessary drive, determination and decisiveness that men innately possess. It's not a personal criticism; it's a fact of biology. Where, for example, are the great female explorers, mountaineers, warriors, inventors, chefs? Blokes dominate most areas of human endeavour because Nature equipped them with something called testosterone. That was part of Nature's grand design to enable men to be stronger, more fearless and more determined than their sisters. Sorry, Carole, fact not fiction.
Women occupy a special but different place in the world to that of men. I've been married to a wonderful woman - a proud mother of four successful adult children, not a nuclear physicist - for nearly 40 years. For yeras, I've heard women like you ask my wife at cocktail parties, functions and dinner parties: And what do you do? The clear inference in the pregnant silence that follows my wife's answer that she is a proud home-maker makes my skin crawl. Women like my wife are the life-givers, the embodiment of sacrificial love (the purest form of love), the primary keepers of the flame of civilisation that separates us from the animal world, and yet the Sisterhood frowns on them for not joining the anti-male club that you so typefy.
The anti-male world of conspiracy theories in which you and the Sisterhood inhabit is the complete antithesis of the world in which positive women thrive. Women who can't cut it in - what did you call it?, the boys' club - can easily cover their inadequacies by claiming bias, sexism, misogyny, chauvinism etc. etc. ad infinitum. It's so tiring to read such twaddle.
Face reality, my dear. Smell the coffee. Try to turn your sour, negative, anti-male view of the world into something more positive and productive. Demonising men may be your life's quest but fewer and fewer people are listening.

This morning, brisbanetimes.com.au revealed the former federal treasurer was set to earn more than $140,000 in his new job examining the state's finances for the new Liberal National Party government.
The government has agreed to pay Mr Costello $3300 per day, plus GST, as he heads up the commission of audit examining the state of the books.
