Should be perfect racing ground for the good to soft/heavy ground lovers.

If they water I wouldn't imagine it would be near heavy. If the weather is mild and they get a breeze it could even be nearer the good side of soft as there would be virtually all day to dry.

Report Date 03/04/2019 08:35:00 Official Going National - Good to Soft Mildmay and Hurdle - Good to Soft, Good in places GoingStick National 5.6 Chase 6.1 Hurdle 6.2 at 1pm Tuesday 2nd Watering Watered up to Saturday Rails All bends and hurdles on outer line. Distances tbc. Bends and hurdles will be moved in after racing each day Weather: 10mm Tuesday. 2mm overnight Wednesday - breezy, sunny spells with showers, poss heavy 9C Thursday - sunny spells with showers, poss. heavy 10C Friday - cold start, brighter spells. Poss. showers later 9C Saturday - mainly dry, sunny spells with showers 10C Dried out over the day and that is the wettest f/cast I've seen with today being the last for any 'significant' showers for most. Seemed to be bit of over-reaction to the rain with soft horses being backed and good ground weakening but that may well carry on today! |

good to soft, good in places didn't last long, soft all over now.

yeah soft all over but (without knowing the times) it didn't look like it rode 'soft' - for instance the bumper field was pretty closely grouped at the end and horses (through the day) didn't look (to me anyway) as if they were all finishing knackered so 'g/s, dead (watered)' might be a better description than 'soft'! Showers around tonight and then dry from then it seems, will prob end up as g/s s in places now so no real excuses.

Landing side of National fences to be watered after ground dries to good to soft
UPDATED 8:10PM, APR 5 2019 Aintree's clerk of the course Andrew Tulloch revealed after racing on Friday that some water would be put on the landing side of fences on the Grand National course ahead of Randox Health Grand National day. He explained: "The track has dried out during the day today, so it's now good to soft on all courses. The ground on the Grand National course is still a bit easier round the Canal Turn. "We're aware the Grand National is now run at 5.15pm, quite late on what is predicted to be a dry day, so what we'll do this evening is water all the landings of all the fences with our pop-up automated watering system, because safety in the landing areas is paramount." Tulloch added: "The forecast for tomorrow is for a dry day, so the ground will gradually continue to dry out." As suggested it could well be pretty much good by the off - wouldn't be backing soft ground horses this evening anyway. |
