When was the last Grand National winner who wasn't attempting the race for the first time ? Is it Mon Mome  9 years ago ?

A lot can be crossed off if this is now the norm.

Yeah, def Mon Mome, and since then, only Pineau De Re & One For Arthur had been over the fences before.

I don't always follow it, but number 1 rule for me is always to go with one who hasn't ran in it.

since they changed the fences in 2013 all winners haven't run in the national before but quite a few placed horses have (balthazar king '14, alvarado, monbeg dude & saint are '15, cause of causes & saint are '17, pleasant company '18) from fairly limited representation

far more horses qualify in the "not run in the race before" category

it depends how you want to spin the figures I suppose but I still prefer a previous run in the race ideally
or at the v least a spin over the fences (bless the wings a qualifier on this)

correct

personally I am not too interested in the pre-2013 stats

the fences are completely different to even a decade ago

April is a long way off, plenty guesswork and a little luck to get there.

Theatre Territory.......Entered in the Beecher 8th december.

Currently off 132,will need another 10lb in all probability to get a run.Caught the eye in the Topham with a fine round of jumping, staying on into a gallant 3rd.One mistake at Beechers, where she cleverly put in an extra stride, rarely do you see a horse take that well to this test, first time up.

Pointing background, she has been very lightly raced in comparison to many 8 yr olds,I get the feeling there might be a lot more to come once given a real test of stamina. Her comeback was arguably another step forward, taking the ratings literally is dangerous, but its not difficult to think she is thrown in at present.

Racing prominently is never a bad thing around this course, getting a clear sight of the fences is half the battle, watching which route certain jocks take is always interesting.

Intrigued how she gets on saturday, if entered, her action suggests softer conditions will be fine.

One for the notebook whatever happens.
