I bet Red Marauder Fattie ,they jumped the last, I was convinced a loose horse would appear from somewhere and knock him over on run in
had a reasonable bet at the odds ,had been running bad ,a large roar went up in the front ,WHEN HE ACTUALLY PASSED THE WINNING LINE unreal race .. ![]() |

One of my favourites.
Pure theatre as Beau unships his jockey & you wonder if either of the 2 remaining runners will get around with still 8 or 9 fences to go....could we really see a Grand National with no finishers ????? Seem to recollect it was slated by our daily Racing publication , despite there being no fatalities . |

John Hanmer's finest hour as he had to do all the 'out in the country' commentary due to the heavy rain getting into the electrics ..... such drama and the only horse injured was Amberleigh House who got squashed at the Canal Turn during the melee, three years later and no ill effects as he won the GN !!! After two seconds in the race, Richard Johnson must feel this was the one that got away as Edmond was a mudlark and slipped on the take-off side of the Chair, if he'd stood up he would have won by a distance.

I thought most peoples view was that Beau would have won by a distance if his reins had got caught up ......all ifs and buts , Red Marauder won by a distance , a fantastic piece of horsemanship by Richard Guest as the horse made a horlicks of several fences.
