Also the names of the two of the bars at the "old" Cheltenham racecourse.

The Prince Regent was the bar in the cabbage patch and I think the Easter Hero was one of the bars in the old tatts stand on the first floor.

The best horse to be beaten in the Grand National would have to be the legendary Golden Miller.

Agreed, though I meant those that had never won the race.

ok, Prince Regent and Easter Hero are great shouts, Post War, perhaps The Dikler and Alverton?

Lots of good ones in my era spring to mind such as The Fellow, Master Oats, Davy Lad, The Thinker, Synchronised, Garrison Savannah, and Cool Ground who all obviously won The Gold Cup along with Alverton, and that's not forgetting Tied Cottage.

Too many others to mention who were pretty decent, and my own personal shout would be Crisp, however not my era (just) Laugh.

Other include the likes of Suny Bay, who put up some weight carrying performance in 98, and the likes of Docklands Express.....and old Tidal Bay has to get a mention, but would be great to see him fail to qualify for this thread in a couple of months time Cool

To add a few into the mix ....

Durham Edition and Greasepaint (both twice runner-up); Clan Royal (twice unlucky) and that perennial finisher The Pilgarlic

A very poor panicky finish by Pitman on CRISP, never coaxed the horse home just panicked.

Regarding Prince Regent, it was not until Arkle had won 2 Gold Cups that Tom Dreaper said that Arkle may be the equal of Prince Regent.  Sadly, the aforementioned's best years were during World War 2.
