The gold cup winner wasn't injured at Beechers. He also wasn't a very good jumper, and if the fences hadn't been made easier, I very much doubt they'd have run him in a national. So the animal rights people killed him.
Dark Ivy's death had nothing to do with the fence, he was sandwiched between two loose horses and never even saw it or had any opportunity to take off properly. The same thing could have happened at any fence.

Barry I was on about Alverton who broke his neck at the fence.
As for the Animal Rights people Killing Synchronised then you are clearly as clueless as they are.
Yes Dark Ivy could have died at any fence but I'm pretty sure the drop did not help.
What about According To Pete Dooneys Gate Eudipe Seeandem Beau Bob etc.

Talking about dead horses is changing the subject really. The sport will continue to kill horses. My point is that it's not right to still call the fence Becher's Brook. For a start there's no longer a brook. The commentator got traditionally excited before the fence, and the marketing people rely on the tradition of the spectacle, but visually the fence they still call Becher's Brook is no different to the five compost heaps preceding it, regardless of what Mick Fitzgerald and the clueless celebrity tried to make us believe before racing. It's all about money now and appealing to the masses. Fair enough if that's the way they want to go, but calling this race the Grand National is a con. It's the sell-out stakes.
