Might go for irish National instead
Report alleged22 March 16, 2013 9:51 PM GMT
is that for definate meat loaf?
Report Meat Loaf March 16, 2013 9:56 PM GMT
I have no idea. But Mullins always leaves a few horses in at this stage and tends to only have 1 or 2 runners.
Report alleged22 March 16, 2013 10:30 PM GMT
moneys down i,ll take me chance as they say Laugh

Good luck alleged, if you can work out the right Mullins dark horse, it might just pay off. I was on the ball, he can't fool me. I went for Call The Police PlainLaugh
Report alleged22 March 17, 2013 9:38 AM GMT
dark horse is probably the wrong analogy, but definately overlooked....
Report Tucho March 17, 2013 11:40 PM GMT
agreed, backed him 50/1 e/w NRNB with bet365 today

big price for a grade 1 winner, he was clearly prepping for something last time out, the question is what for?
Report GoldCupWinner March 18, 2013 12:36 AM GMT
Has he ironed out his jumping problems now? Seem to remember him falling a lot which may seen him aimed at the Irish instead.
Report alleged22 March 18, 2013 9:24 AM GMT
that would be the only negative GCW, recently though he seems to have got his jumping together, so is worth the chance at the odds imo
Report alleged22 March 19, 2013 9:18 AM GMT
weights to go up by 4lbs if albertas run doesnt stand his ground is my biggest worry at the moment
Report alleged22 March 27, 2013 6:54 PM GMT
taken out of irish GN
Report thieveslikeus March 27, 2013 7:02 PM GMT
Mullins confirmed he runs, see RP news.
Report kelami March 27, 2013 8:41 PM GMT
This is the one lads. Been backing him on here for the last 12 months at odds as big as 480/1!
Report judorick March 27, 2013 8:51 PM GMT
was 69th out of 83 original entries on my Mordin style spreadsheet and only 7 out of 15 characteristics

not looking a likely winner on that

V,C GIVING 1/4 FIRST 6.  QUEL ESPRIT 50/1 AT THE MIN ,,,12/1 TO BE IN THE 6    YUM YUM.
Report kelami March 27, 2013 9:27 PM GMT
Oh well Mordin doesn't fancy him. Can't possibly win then!
Report judorick March 27, 2013 10:03 PM GMT
I don't know what Mordin thinks about him

I know what I think based on the Mordin method that I spent most of February going through

if you got massive prices I would green up
Report Tucho March 27, 2013 11:40 PM GMT
how many did neptune collonges hit last year?

anyway, a classy, grade 1 winning, french bred, grey has won 100% of the last 1 renewals

quel esprit is the perfect fit

Laugh

Did judorick miss Neptune Collonges last year? Surely not! I thought old judo was perfection personified?!

LaughLaughLaughLaughLaughLaugh

Quel Esprit it is!
Report alleged22 March 28, 2013 1:35 PM GMT
if i remember right... neptunes got 8 out of 13

im really liking this horse even more, so going to go in again and take some of that vc offer, cant see him out of the 1st 6 if he gets round

i can see a similar ride to last years winner, just lope round in a canter at the back and pick them off in the last mile.

just got to avoid the fallers Crazy
Report kelami March 28, 2013 1:37 PM GMT
I know he fell a couple times earlier in his career, but is now one of the best jumpers of a fence in training.
Report thieveslikeus March 28, 2013 5:02 PM GMT
Agree he is overpriced, is a perfectly good jumper had some bad luck in his novice days.  Was particularly unfortunate in the RSA and also the Moriarty and even more so when BD by a loose horse at Punchestown!   Ran well but needed the run behind SDC, I'd be much keener if he'd had another run but he is the second classiest horse in the race, even if his grade 1 win was a little weak.
Report BarryM April 1, 2013 4:59 PM BST
Doesn't look a likely stayer to me. Never won beyond 3m, and faded a bit at the end of the Punchestown Gold Cup last year. There must also be a good chance the fences will frighten the life out of him. And he'll hate the ground. Apart from that, he IS well handicapped, so if he takes to it I suppose he's got a chance.  Not for me though.
Report kelami April 1, 2013 8:25 PM BST
Jumping is he's strength so unlikely the fences will 'frighten the life out of him'.....though you never know!
Report alleged22 April 2, 2013 9:14 AM BST
if i remember rightly he was being aimed at the CGC but suffered a set back, so was probably not right at punchestown so i,ll forgive him that run....
Report BarryM April 2, 2013 11:53 PM BST
I thought they decided to save him for Punchestown, but I might be wrong. I think he's jumped a lot better in his last few races, but they have mostly been in small fields and deep ground. I don't think I've seen nearly enough to call jumping a strength, he has only run in 10 chases and failed to complete 3 of them (one not his fault). He fell over hurdles too.

Of even bigger concern would be his lack of experience of big fields. The largest field he has faced in any completed chase is 8. This is a very different test.
Report jasey April 3, 2013 3:07 AM BST
Likes to front run which is a plus, but will be a furious pace, his jumping will definately be put to the test.
Report alleged22 April 3, 2013 10:08 AM BST
QUEL ESPRIT will miss the Betfred Cheltenham Gold Cup on Friday after failing to please on the racecourse gallops at Cheltenham  on Friday morning.

Speaking shortly after 10am his trainer Willie Mullins said: "Paul [Townend] wasn't happy with Quel Esprit when he rode him on the gallops this morning.

"He said the horse didn't feel right during routine exercise, so, unfortunately, he won't be running in the Gold Cup."

when looking at the national i like a bit of class and this fella has it, and with only 10 chase starts i think there is still improvement to come, when the thread was started he was 75-1 which imo was 3 times the price he should have been, the second classiset horse in the race, a grade 1 winner running in a handicap, i,ll have some of that Excited
Report ChildOfMine2 April 4, 2013 2:10 AM BST
He's defo the forgotten horse and has got that bit of class needed. Lets hope he gets luck in running now!
