Really sad for connections.
The Aintree apologists have made themselves a hostage to fortune now. Tinkered with Becher's and two killed there. What will they do next year? Replace it with a hurdle?

not sure if anyone noticed this.. but why the f**k did Clair Balding have to mention frankels situation right at the end of the broadcast, to make a bad situation worse. maybe she was told to? maybe she had a choice? but with millions of once a year punters watching who do not understand the industry, this was a VERY bad call

This is my opinion only....Since Aintree tinkered with this great race we have had as many killed in 2 years as we had in a number of years previous. The reason behind this is that jockeys have become too complacent. They go hell for leather at Bechers brook thinking the threat has been taken out of this fence... hence the dead horses.I suggest changing the fences back, put the drop back in so jockeys have to think and plot their way around.many years ago were the fences just made up of firs piled on each other so if a horse misjudged it it would just desimate the fence. Now they have wood half way up the fence (fence rails)to hold the the firs in place with only the top coming off?.This would mean the fence would be desimated, but more tired jumpers would go through the fence rather than breaking their legs on the fence rails.
Also i would like to see a max weight too, maybe 11st 6 max.I know it's an handicap but you can have more runners running off lower weights, and even more than forty runners so no-one says they can,t get in off a lower mark.More runners would mean having to think again about plotting your way around.
The start was a shambles too....why not have the grass sprayed red across the course at the start and the jockeys can only enter the box when the starter calls them forward.Anyone breaking the tape then gets a red card and disqualified. This would be a less frantic start.
I used to love the grand national but it is turning into just another race with all the tinkering....less get it was many years ago with less casualties.
Lastly....why was Syncronised allowed to take part.Mccoy had clearly hurt his arm in the fall and was holding it and anyone could see he had problems, and Syncronised had run an extra mile which would have used some energy....it took the vet with the stethascope all of a nano second to say he was o.k.
