.depends how far you take trends.
some are facts.dont push it was'nt a trends horse, but trends horses were thin on the ground in that race anyway.

The trends come down to wanting a horse that's well enough handicapped, experienced but not knackered, race fit but not over the top, in form, will stay and classy enough. I really don't know why people get so wound up about it.

Trends That Matter

* The horse must have 4 legs and a tail.  Horses without a tail do not win grand nationals..they are only good on circular tracks like the Indianapolis 500 because they can only run well in a circle.

* Absolutely no garlic munchers can ever win..the other horses don't like the smell and will bring them down (on purpose)...unless they are miles out the back, the wind is the other way and the horse has swigged a litre of Listerine before the off like old Mon Mome - then they win.

* Horses with stupid names do not win the Grand National.  The clue is often in their names -  BecauseIcouldntsee - Thats some handicap for Aintree.  According to Pete Doherty will be mainlining a gram of Golden Brown in the paddock before the off - avoid. Shakalakaboomboom will be doing the ockey cockey in the ring with Chocolate, Ruby and AP.  Will be in a right old mess before the off, sweating like a - well racehorse I guess. Synchronised on the other hand is one for the shortlist.  AP, JonJo and AP will have perfectly synchronised their betting activity to maximise returns. Get on. The Midnight Club - says it all - been up all night partying the night before - avoid. And so on.  This is the biggest trend of the race and you can put a line through the majority of the field just following this basic rule.

Good luck!
