Plenty of horses shortening over the past 48 hrs, but one who seems to have been missed by the " value hunters " is the classy NEPTUNE COLLONGES.

It seems that Plan A was last year's National, but that was scuppered when he won the Argento, and so it was the Gold Cup followed by the Scottish National off top weight on unsuitably quick ground.

This time around things have gone much more to plan, and he gets in this years race off a good looking mark of 157. He's improved with each run this season, and would probably have beaten Giles Cross in another couple of strides at Haydock last time. The likelihood of soft ground is not a concern, and although Ruby has decided to partner On His Own, it is not enough to deter me from backing the 11 yr old.

If it's value you're looking for, then surely NEPTUNE COLLONGES fits the bill at 33's with the books and 40 ish on here?

I agree with you and have been surprised that Neptune Collonges has hardly been backed ever since the decs came out. This is a horse who was beaten a nose by Kauto Star in a Gold Cup in his prime as the 3rd choice stable horse. Let's be honest, if he came around at any other time apart from when 2 of the greatest horses of alltime were around then he would have a Gold Cup.

He's a horse who will give you everything he has got. A gallant front runner, who even thoug he's lost a bit of pace since his injury, he stays allday to make up for it. 4 1/2 miles these days will be perfect for him. He's a very good jumper and this must be the first race in a long time that he's not giving weight away allround.

Ruby has made the wrong choice here and it would not surprise me in the slightest if Neptune Collonges gave Paul Nicholls his first National winner and I hope he does to get the same recognition that he deserves as Kauto Star and Denman have over the year for being a very gallant and classy performer.

I am happy with the 50s I got on Neptune Collonges and I hope other people catch on and back him.

I ****ing LOVE Neptune Collonges. What a horse, what a legend! A true warrior. After being so unlucky to be around at the same time as Kauto and Denman to win a Gold Cup, he deserved this big race success and I'm glad he joined his 2 mates in getting a big race win! Had him ante post on January 11th at 50/1 e/w. Was soooooo tempted to top up on the 55s available on Betfair the other day I wish I did!!

NC has never been up there near the top of my all time favourites, but somehow I always seem to be rooting for him when he's in a race. Absolutely delighted that he won today in typically battling fashion. And the icing on the case is the wonderful decision to retire him at once, how refreshing. Let's just hope that all connected with Kauto Star get the message and do likewise, the sooner the better.

what a great sportsman john hales is, his horses come first. if the winner was owned by JP he would be aimed at the scottish national, followed by punchestown, and then a couple of races in france.

Still seems like a fairytale as a long time supporter of Neptune Collonges! Seems surreal and not real and stories like this show just why National Hunt racing is the best sport in the world! He was a very good horse who never won the amount of grade 1's his talent deserved because of Kauto/Denman, but he got his day in the sun and how! A true battler, will always give you 100% effort.

As other people have said, well done to John Hales too for retiring the old boy after the race. What a way to go out! I wish Ruby had the faith too that all us Neptune Collonges backers on here had but Daryl Jacob, who I've been critical of in the past for some of his rides, gave him a peach of a ride and a very deserved success for him too, and everyone else at Ditcheat such as Harry Derham who's been riding him latley too.

Brilliant Excited
