"After a lengthy discussion with the owners, we have decided that Weird Al will join Ballabriggs in next weekend's Grand National.
We just felt that he might not get the chance to run off such an attractive mark in the future and that he might be the sort of horse who would really take to the place - in the end, it's the Grand National and the decision really took care of itself.
He was obviously below par in the Gold Cup but he bled there and it clearly wasn't his true running - he has looked in great nick at home since.
Timmy Murphy, who rode him to win the Charlie Hall, will take the ride".

I'm surprised but understand the reasoning.
I backed Weird Al at 25/1 each way for the Gold Cup and topped up at 14/1 on the day of the race. I know that Paul Jones and Donn McClean also fancied Weird Al's chances in the Gold Cup. Don't know what to do now! It's one of those traps - if I let him go unabacked he'll probably win... Looks like the best handicapped horse n the race to me... Headache time! |

After bleeding in the Gold Cup he must be a serious doubt to get round over 4 1/2 m of the National fences a month later?
