The horse just doesn't like fencing.
And has regressed with each run. Imo. |
By:
Thought he was going well enough at Cheltenham until coming down.
|
By:
They said they just wanted to get a clear round. So they'll give him a shot in the 3 miler at Punchestown and if he fails they retain his novice status for next season.
|
By:
There is no way they will run in the 3miler.
What an unbelievably bad display of training by Mullins this year, with this horse. |
By:
The biggest disappointment this season. True enough Brooks he was travelling well at the festival, maybe it takes him a couple of runs to regain his confidence, his fall at the last in the Drinmore may have knocked him back and then at Cheltenham put him back square one. Jumped well on Sunday, it may look like Ruby was holding him up but to me it looked like he was been outpaced. The horse really has hit rock bottom. Lets hope we see something special at Punchestown from this lad!

to think they were talking of him as a gold cup horse is unbelievable now.he was certainly talented enough ut has just gone backwards snce that fall against jessies dream / bounce etc etc. if he ran well in the punchestown gc he would have a great mark for the hennessy but ive give up on him. following him would send you broke and if he doesnt resume somewhere near his form god only knows where he will end up, handicap chases around gaff tracks probably. ruby obv knows hes not good enough to beat big bucks over hurdles. id say between him and quel esprit, mullins gets some headaches
|
By:
I agree with Sint.... real shame to see.
|
By:
i just thiks its bizarre!look at his first run over fences, he had jessies dream beat on the bridle with realt dubh behind and hes never reproduced anything close to that since. i know he knuckled but i just find it strange, he was a fooking machine! dont think fences bring out the best in him and it pains me to say it and i dont claim to know anything in comparison to the genius that is willie mullins but he messed this horse about this season, he shouldve been put away or sent back over hurdles earlier! yoyoing in trip, id be interested to see him over hurdles again tbh to see if he does retain his ability.
just look at the scalps hes taken. just cant believe he doesnt retain his ability lookin at his first run, townend only drew his whip at the last as he was about to jump it, watch that race, and he actually jumped well the whole race, v strange. future multiple g1 winning chasers behind. i cant explain it tbh. |

Entered over hurdles on Tuesday, very big price on his old form
|
By:
old form means nothing
|
By:
i will back him if he shows up, he wantsa hurdle.
|
By:
i think hes suicidal
|
By:
quevega and mourad would thump him over hurdles on tuesday if he ran.
|

I'm just gobsmacked at Temlett's post.
It's all Willi Mullin's fault Wouldn't be the horse just hasn't recovered as well as expected would it mate? Big disappointment to me as I thought he'd go right to the top. I wouldn't back him over hurdles until he'd shown some of his old ability and up to now there hasn't even been a glimmer of hope in that shpere. I'd keep away from cliffs if you are going to fellow him. |
By:
Nobody said it was "all" Willies fault.
Whether the horse retained ability was one thing, but to run him 5 times over fences, all in grade 1s, without every giving him a chance to get a confidence booster and learn his trade? It has been a shocking display of how to train a novice chaser. |
By:
Always funny people who have a go at the trainer when they've lost money.
|
By:
I assume that remark is addressed at me?
Are you saying he was handled well? |
By:
Well his campaign has been unfortunate but it hasn't been Mullins fault.
He knuckled on landing on his first run of the season at Fairyhouse, then it seemed like he bounced 2 weeks later at Leopardstown. Quel Esprit took him out of the race in the PJ Moriarty and he was traveling well when falling in the RSA. I can't see how this is Mullins fault. With the benefit of hindsight he shouldn't have run so soon after Fairyhouse, but the horse went off 4/7 that day so nobody felt that way at the time. So no, I think Mullins has done what he thought was right at the time and I agreed with everything he did. Have a look at how Cooldine was campaigned and then come back to have a go at Mullins. 2m, 2m5f, 3m stepped up in trip each time cluminating with a demolition job in the RSA. |
By:
Cooldine started off in a beginners chase and win it.
He than ran in Grade 1s at shorter than ideal trips before Cheltenham and it helped his jumping etc. Mikael was never given the chance to gather his confidence after the Drinmore incident. There was nothing wrong with starting him in the Grade 1 but he should have been given the opportunity to win a nice easy beginners chase and gain some confidence before being asked to take on Grade 1 horses again. The Christmas run was a bad decision. The price of the horse does not make any difference to the decision, as punters had the same faith in the horse as Mullins. Both trainer and punter made a mistake. It happens and hopefully he will come back next year and win some nice races over hurdles. |
By:
Needs easy ground imo.
|
By:
if ground stays good to yielding (and they prob chuck loads more water on by thursday) surely 11/1 dunguib and 14/1 mikael is too big????
|
By:
Personally feel mullins has messed the horse about, should he really have run the horse 2 weeks after having his first run back after injury and having fallen, no probably not. He must of known MKD was going to bounce why run him?
If he wasn't going to tackle yesterdays race then imo he should be put away for the summer and given a proper campaign as a novice next season over 3m |
By:
I agree with you Temlett - the trainer would probably admit he made mistakes in the horse's campaign. However I also think the horse is a little soft for fences and I thought he crumpled a little bit too easy in his two falls rather than find a leg and try to stay up. Nevertheless I think his future remains over hurdles and I have a speculative each way punt on for tommorrow although I can't really see him beating Quevega
|
By:
tanked thru that for a long way and just weakened at the end.
definite ability still there. |
By:
total mincer
with physical issues imo |
