I just cant believe that none of the above go 1st 5 in the shops - Some of them may go 1st 5 on line but not in the shops

Surely if 1 of the above took the bull by the horns  turnover in there shops would rocket national day

The knock on affect of this would also im sure benefit that shop as there wud be even bigger long walks waiting to play the machines also those lucky enougth to back the 5th will have to return to pick returns up and almost certainly put another bet or or spend it on the machines or lottery's

Just dont understand why they dont its A 100% yes

So many +'s and cant see A reason not to....

Bookies don't want people betting in shops, they can't control peoples betting history in there, they'd prefer everyone to bet online then if you take them for a few quid they can limit your stake or shut you down.
That's why you'll always see more offers online - shops are for cartoon racing and roulette machines

"Bookies don't want people betting in shop"

Rubbish, pseudo-shrewdie logic.

Why are the high street firms not paying 5 places on the National, yet most paid 5 places on the major handicaps at the Cheltenham Festival, and BillHills paid five places on both the Spring Mile and the Lincoln (In-shop, may I add)? Simply because the kind of punter betting on those kind of races is likely to have a regular interest in horse racing and is more than willing to shop around from company-to-company trying to find the best deal for their selection. Therefore, the firms have to make concessions on those kind of events if they want to attract custom. Simply put, there is no need to do the same on National day. The once a year punters are not going to go on Oddschecker to see who is best price, or see who is playing five places. The majority won't even bother going to the different firm across the road to see if their horses are a bigger price in there.

And even if one firm did start paying five places, all other high-street firms would be forced to follow suit unless they wanted their market share to nosedive on the busiest day of the betting year. Which would leave all firms in the position of paying out an extra place, completely ruining their margins on such a high turnover event. Therefore, no major bookmakers will ever fire the first shot in a 'five places' war. It works in the same way as Mutually Assured Destruction during the Cold War.

The worse bookie for that is Totesport. I see they are offering best price on something, go on to their site and try and get a grand on. Message comes back "minimum stake is £4.80"

If you have ever been in betting shop on National day you will see that they struggle to cope with the punters they already get. Most of which are totally clueless about betting. They don't even know how to fill out the betting slip. Why give these suckers a break and pay out 1st 5. Clued up punters are betting on line and will bet with those giving the 5 places.

The big 4 are probably to busy working out how to ensure the SP returns total 200% to be bothered about how many places they are going to pay.
