if it was a $600k profit, between $700k-$2.4m depending on exactly what time he bought and how much he actually had in gold or the currency trades, as they have different margin requirements. correct benny?

the most the gold profit was $18 an oz as he claimed and im being kind saying 1 cent rise on the AUD. thats 1/100th of a dollar if ive done my maths correctly. im no expert on the stockmarket, but your figures just dont add up.

i thought $600,000 = 60 million cents = $60 million investment if trading in just the AUD.

and gold if traded alone, $600000 divided by 18 profit = 33,333.3333 x that by the gold price bought at $1684

well do your own maths, thats serious money needed to profit 10 year wages.

well you can use 40:1 leverage on gold and 20:1 leverage on the currencies at the contract size he would have needed to buy. So while the actual figure if you had bought outright is in the few tens of millions, in reality you would only need to put down a fraction of that down as a deposit. so somewhere between 700k-2.4m depending on the actual price bought at and how much gold or currencies was bought.

no, because you get a margin call if it drops by 2.5% (or whatever margin you were using), and they close the trade for you. So really, the most you could lose is whatever deposit you put down (perhaps a bit more if it plummeted really fast past your stop loss).

To be honest I was a bit surprised at the overreaction by some- I mean is it really so incredible? I dont think so. Sure its a big win but in the scheme of things not so surprising. One of the guys who got me interested in trading about 15 years ago routinly made 120k a day in options. Not every day but often. He was a trader for one of the big 4 aussie banks.
