I remember all GS finals back to 1994 and I can not come up with much.

In 1998 Korda was supposed to be fatigued after some awesome battles in the heat prior to the final against Rios. He killed Rios that day.

In 2009 Nadal was suppose to be tired after his epic semifinal against Verdasco - he was not.

At the US Open people expected Djokovic to be fatigued and he did not show anything.

I actually only remember one really  good example and that was not a GS final but Chennai final some years ago when Rafa has played an epic against Moya and was gone the next day against Youzhny.

masters tournaments (excluding the two b2b in the american spring) are generally far more hardcore than a slam

In 09, Nadal was quoted as saying that he spent 3 hours in an ice bath and continually threw up the next day. He wasn't even sure he would make the court never mind play. Remarkable recovery.

Murray was drained when losing Federer in his first GS final, though it is hard to place that loss completely down to the very late finish of course.

I think you mean Nadal vs Djokovic in 2010 and you could have a point there.

I like the fact that Djokovic from 1-2 sets down went to 2-2 sets and 5-2 lead....show he has something in the tank and 40 hours should be enough for decent recovery

No, 09 in Aus after the Dasco match.

I would be shocked if fatigue was a factor in this match
Report karbacher January 28, 2012 1:24 PM GMT
Maybe it was a factor in 2009, Neogenic - Rafa would probably had beaten Federer in straight if he was not tired that day Happy

Ah I wasn't saying it was a factor, but everyone was stating it should be beforehand ;)

Since you mention Nadal vs Moya , I can give you 1 more instance where Nadal got pummeled in a
final after a grueling semi :

    Madrid 2009  ,  Nadal vs Djokovic  3/6 7/6 7/6

a match that lasted 4 and 1/2 hrs , both had 2 match points apiece .

It was one of the most grueling 3 setter ever played ,whoever watched

that match , might remember many long rallies , lasting over 30 shots

with some lasting over 40 .

Next day Nadal lost to Federer .

And here it goes a GS final example :

1975 USO Forest Hills , first year played on Har-Tru .

1st semi , Connors beats Borg in straight sets

2nd semi , Orantes vs Vilas , it was a long long match .

Orantes was 2/1 sets down and 0/5 in the 4th , where

he saved 5 match points , he went on to take that set and the

whole match on one of the greatest comebacks ever .

Match lasted till almost midnight .

Connors thought he might have had an easy one , being Orantes

more tired than him , but apparently Orantes had other plans and beat

                 Connors in 3 sets .

Moral of the story , never trust a tired fella .

I am sure Djokovic is gonna come tomorrow with all guns blazing .

karbacher allway's with a good analysis.

Just one thing:
In US open 2010 final, I think that after de midle of the second set both were tired, but Nadal was more tired then Nole.
