Well it seems that while making plenty of cuts those at the top are escaping unscathed.

Instead of cutting the front line manchester city council could look at reducing the Chief Executice's salary.. 50% reduction to a mere £116,000 a year...his deputy...same 50% reduction to £69.500.....same again for the Director of Children's Services, a nice little earner of £69,500...and, wait for it....a 50% reduction from £130,000 to a lousy £65,000 for our Deputy Chief Executive of Performance, whatever that is!
That's is an instant saving to taxpayers of £320,000.
Add to the scapping of the many non jobs in Albert Square such as....
Nuclear Free Local Secretariat, Ploicy and Research Officer @ £37k, New Media Manager @ £38k, Link Worker - Indian and East African Asian on £25,940; a so-called Cultural Regeneration Officer (1) @ a cool £30k; another Cultural Regeneration Officer on a mere £28,919, it goes on... Assistant Specialist Market Manager on £ 27,016...well it is only an assistant post, Corporate Lead Officer, Lesbians' issues ( I kid you not ) on £38k, Corporate Lead Officer, Gay Men's Issues, another £38k, a 'Zest' Hub Co-Ordinator 9 whatever that is ) on £30k, Climate Change Officer £37,206, Team Strategic Development on salary of £41,616, a Creative Director on a juicy £120,000 ( helps Manchester compete with Bilbao, Lille and San Diego, at what? ) An Expressive and Performing Arts Technician ( sounds like a real job this one ) @ £21,519... and last but not least, a Travel Change Team Policy Officer on £34,549!

Spot on MW. The council chiefs refuse to cut their own pay, perks, and non jobs, whilst simultaneously slashing and burning front line services. They then go on the BBC news to bleat about the "nasty tory cuts". They should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

Labour councils would rather shut down toddler and old peoples groups than shed non local government jobs created by Labour to grossly overpaid bureaucrats .
Report blackburn1 February 16, 2011 10:07 PM GMT
Yes but at least labour created jobs

And filled them with immigrants.

It beggars belief these non jobs are still being supported whilst the likes of teaching assistants, lollypop ladies and gentlemen, bin men librarians and park keepers are losing theirs.

so, at your next Council Elections, vote for the party that promises to pay council workers less. Simples. It's called democracy.

That is a failing of our democracy in some way gus, promise the majority free strawberries and cream and buy their votes as long as you take the money from a minority. It is lookimg like Manchester City Council started by trying to embarrass the government but the focus may well be turned upon them and their behaviour.
Report gus February 16, 2011 11:13 PM GMT
so, it's a failing of democracy that some voters disagree with your point of view.

what alternative system of government would you propose?
Report treetop February 16, 2011 11:15 PM GMT
Its not democracy I am agin, just abusing it by buying votes a.k.a bribes.
Report gus February 16, 2011 11:17 PM GMT
then i'd recommend you to vote against candidates / parties that you consider to be buying votes / bribes
Report treetop February 16, 2011 11:22 PM GMT
Have done but the concept of bribing the majority still prevails within Labour's mindset. By all means promise what you believe in but I always thought Brown ,and Balls to an extent, went a step too far that way.

Take away his frequent Daily Mail jibe and apart from pi55 and wind what does Benny have to offer?
Report gus February 16, 2011 11:33 PM GMT
well, short of becoming a candidate yourself, i'd say you've done all that could reasonably be expected, as have i, and all the other people who bother to vote, for whatever reason.

Thought about standing myself gus but campaigned and doorkncoked loads for SDP and Lib Dems when we joined up but didnt like the stronger liberal influence, too wishy washy for me. Been a floating voter since. I always have time for other comments but abhor the tribal hatred that can drift in. Gd luck.

As far as these councils are concerned cultural marxism/applied marxism  are 'front line services'They will always pretend they  'regretfully' have to cut front line services in order to protect their'ringfenced' programmes of cultural marxism.
Report treetop February 17, 2011 3:40 PM GMT
Some of these councils seem to be announcing cutting front line services  with glee because of the political 'benefits' they assume will flow. It could turn out horribly wrong if the public focus starts to shift to inefficiency and feather bedding of bureaucracy and council salaries and expenses.
