The stage was set with the sun shining, girls dancing and the rum flowing for the culmination of this seasons Grand Series of Poker. That’s right, the Grand Final is being held in none other than the Caribbean at the luxurious, all-inclusive, 5 star resort that is the Hard Rock Hotel Punta Cana.
25 lucky Betfair players have travelled out here from all over to join John ‘kunku Wap’ Tabatabai and make-up part of Team Betfair. We welcomed the Betfair players at the Sun Bar before we moved on to the local hotspot, a night club called ‘Oro’. Whilst I assumed that jet lag would ensure an early night, I could not have been more mistaken. In true Betfair style the night stretched onto the early hours of the morning.
Today is the first day of the Main Event which had a brilliant turn out with 222 runners and an amassing $666,000 in prize money.
John’s start today was in line with his playing style, volatile at best. He turned up an hour late and within his first 30 minutes of play polished off his stack but has since managed to manoeuvre himself back up to 30,000 and is now looking cool and relaxed. Asides, from John’s roller coaster start Team Betfair has seen one unfortunate causality in Andreas Fjelstad. I was concerned about his early demise but he seemed happy to be able to get back to working on his tan so all is well!
I will post the day’s chip counts for all Team Betfair members that are listed below on this thread. Post comments here if you would like any special pics/ updates:
