Normal service resumed here with a runaway seven-lengths pluswin by Bubbly Phoenix, who trapped modestly but then showed a burst of pace to take advantage of bunching on his inside. Paul Young's dog then cut the bend, chopping off You Mind Me and Trewmount Snap. That pair then collided on the second bendalong with Kirkland Black, with slow starting Longwood Hawk missing the trouble and turning second down the back. Trewmount Snap, of the non stayers, held on best for third. But Bubbly Phoenix was back to his majestic first round best, moving very wide off the last bend.

been a decent enough night without any fireworks yet, betting red for some fireworks tho, think taylor will barge way to front but maybe use up a few lengths doing so, longwood had a fight after line last round so got a bit about it, should chase it home hard 25s got to

Razldazl Jayfkay took a step wide on leaving the boxes, and that was effectively the end of the Derby for the pair on his outside, Skywalker Gold and Bowtime Sykes, but not the ante-post favourite, who quickly straightenedup and burst clear. He did appear to lose his footing slightly coming out of the first bend, and the chasing pack were then on his tail and made him work harder than expected. Griague Orchard was soon and always second, keepng middle going down by less than a length, Westmead Adonis always third, a further half length back.

The syndicate that includes Tony McCoy are getting a great run in this year's Derby from Shelbourne Geoff, who flew out and then battled hard to come back when passed by Droopys Loner down the back. For the third successive round, Droopys Loner has taken part in a truly exciting battle - he deserves appearance money just for making the Classic a thriller! He has yet to trap, and if he does, it will be interesting. He has serious pace. Mark My Words did not look as though he was going to qualify, drifting wide at the bend, and then getting crowded at the quarter and third. He was still fifth coming out of the third bend but kept on best coming home to survive into Tuesday's quarter-finals. Westmead Maldini and Go Go Sonic were always struggling to make it after very slow starts.

Razldazl Rioga blasted clear from trap one and although Mill Maximus ran a race and a half to keep on his tail throughout (beaten less than a length, edging closer throughout!), it was nevertheless pretty much race over at the traps. Rioga, the Cork Laurels champion, looks lethal drawn red. Mill Maximus wil have cheered the Kelly Macari camp after Mill Bling Bling went out in the previous heat. Droopys Lorenzo came away poorly but showed good pace to go and stay third. The others never got into the race.

i agree Dan, not to mention he gets every draw, and withdrawn dogs in his races, becoming comedy.
in fairness he is a good dog, but can't be called special until he does something out of the ordinary imo

How much luck can 1 dog get? Every draw going last year, 5 dog races and dogs knocking each other about in front of him. Thought these things were supposed to even out!!

# It's now 12 starts from red, 12 wins for Boher Paddy but he was made to work tremendously hard by Farloe Ironman, who pinged and led to near the line. There was a long delay before the photo confirmed Charlie Lister's dog had got up. It was a fantastic buckle and Matt Dartnall can count himself a little unlucky not to have won - but is safely through. Bucks Blade came off best as the field, a long way behind, bunched off the last and took third. The others had also been in first bend bunching, Shelbourne Abi missing the kick.

No its not widow, he's shown nothing, not starting at all not standing up properly at the start. he needed 4 to deck 6 otherwise he goes out, he'd have gone out last round if eden star had run. Pedro is so unlucky to go out yet nothing seemingly goes against sky ever!

Paul Young's Derby is definitely back on track with a double thanks to Young Sid, the Blue Riband hero, who pinged and made all. Defending champ Taylors Sky (trap two) and red runner Longwood Days were both slow away and collided at the start - they looked to face a struggle to qualify before they got a stroke of luck. Fast up Castlebridge Dan ran off at the bend and clobbered Jaytee Pedro, and suddenly Taylors Sky was left second. Longwood Days took third as Jaytee Perdo got an awful run, stopped at the second, halfway and third.

didnt say it was a conspiracy, he's just a seriously lucky dog, as czech said cant remember a dog quite so lucky. He was a very good dog but he isnt the same dog as last year at the moment or even close

You're right duke, not the same but he wasn't exactly on fire in the early rounds of last years derby, think he was 8's when he won one round when the owner said throw your slips in the bin because the bowswer hadn't been round

give him a bad draw and lets see what price he goes and how well he does?, if he can consistently overcome problems he will could become great, but could anyone honestly put him in brackets with Hawk, Rapid Ranger, College Causeway etc no chance
not the dogs fault he has never had a bad draw or make up lol

** Owner trainer John Gardner has his Coolavanny Bert showing fantastic pace up and he comprehensively took command here as Blonde Snapper, who had also trapped, veered wide early from three. It seemed all over, but wait, Ireland's Droopys Jet, for the first time getting a clear run and finally looking at home round the track, came with a great effort, was arguably crowded slightly off the last as he moved up and then challenged on the outside of the leader before going down by the minimum margin. Two cracking dogs who still have a great chance, as has Blonde Snapper, if drawn further out. The others here never got into the race.

i think a great dog needs to do a little more than win the english derby. Because of three things. The first is the track management which varies from race to race, and is not consistent. The second for me is the three races in 7 days. That makes it a lottery. The third is the draw.
Come back here after Tuesday when half the best dogs are out. Then tell me 10 days later that the winner was a great dog. For me there have been too many kinda ready's over the past 20 years, you'd be well up backing the rag every year i the final. So I do apologise if it upsets you but the English Derby does not necessarily provide a GREAT DOG imho.

irish,it doesn't upset me,lifes all about opinions! It would be boring otherwise!Surely you defeat you're own argument though about the 3 runs in a week? The dogs that come through those runs are the strong ones?Or lucky in a way, with Taylors getting red again!!!

"The dogs that come through those runs are the strong ones"
I took a 36 kg tullymurry out for a walk yesterday, decided to chase an angus bull, split its web, really strong dog, but wont run for a month now.
No mate the dogs that get through from now on are the lucky ones
They are not at their strongest in the semi's.

Mind you there a lot of macho trainers about over here that say they can get them back to full fitness in a couple of days
Even Bert's trainer got a bit like it in his post race interview. The vet is the main guide over here though and apart from the fee (extortionate) many say they dont really know the dogs.
My experience is that 3 days is not a reasonable amount of time for recovery

i think a crisp packet will blow onto the track at the first bend and 5 dogs will go for it leaving sky to win!
in all seriousness agree m8 there is alot of early its no cheap lead or gimme, the way he is trapping seems anyone can have his ground? all very well a dog being tuned up as you go along but he is in a bad trapping habit for sure, Tuesday wont be straightforward, looking forward to it
