Think a bit too much is made of it. It's actually 3 runs in 8 days, just a brief spell of virtually 1 race per 3 days. What's the alternative anyway? Juggle the last 3 rounds around and race the final on a Tuesday, or adopt an Irish angle, a week between each round, but any competition over 5 weeks, is too long drawn out, imo
I've no problem with it but the week between each race is clearly the better option in my opinion. It would mean 1 extra week, hardly making it drawn out. It gives the trainers and dogs a better chance, you pick up a slight knock Saturday night or Tuesday night you're more than likely facked. At least with the extra couple of days it gives the trainers a chance to treat the dogs and gives the dogs a bit longer to recover.
Some people like this way as they say it's a great test and that's fair enough but given the choice i know which i'd rather.
It's not called "TERRIBLE TUESDAY" for nothing

The Irish is ran over 6 weeks as opposed to 5 weeks for the English.
1st round - Wed, Thur, Sat 2nd round - Thur, Sat
then each Saturday.
I think that way is better but nobody can complain about the way the English Derby is ran as everybody knows the set up and it's there choice whether to enter / bet themselves.

Agreed, i know is supposedly makes it a test but for me its more of a test if all of the dogs are given (an equal and fair) time to recover, making sure to win it you have to beat the best at their best. Far more difficult to win a classic that way than just running 3 times in 8 days.
Mind you, i cant see them changing the set up.

I think its more the physiological affect on the greyhounds themselves, theres documented evidence that dogs can take longer to recover from the exertions of a race than they are allowed by this structure, dont ask me to find it,i cant be bothered but it is out there and explains why terrible tuesday happens.
Infact it was a regular little money spinner for me at the stow where a trainer would run maybe sat nite/mon bags then harlow weds and fri bags/sat nite, would always take that dog on if possible on that 3rd run.

Yeah, Tuesday a day for laying the shorties for me, been on the wrong end of shorty getting turned over many a time on TTues.
Its only taken me 10 years to work that out

Bannahan. No, still not laying yet and doubt i will. When i say adjusting my book, i meant adding some dogs, making less winnings on others, just covering. Still got my big 2 Maximus and Sky. Usually, i have 1 running for good money in the final, 1 for okay money, about 4 break-evens and roughly 2 slight losses, just gives me an interest all the way through. Apart from Derby night itself, i dont really do too much betting in the heats, unless i fancy something well overpriced, so Jane's tipping competition gives me that added interest.
Anyway, am i going daft or something? Sure the Irish Derby is run over 5 weeks, as originally stated. There may be 6 rounds, but round 2 is run after just 1 week. I'm first to admit my mental arithmatic aint great, but think i got this one right?

The one before last post didnt quite add up. Anyway, ought to have the finalists running for various amounts, that's the plan anyway, dependant on any more tweeks and what happens from here on in, starting tomorrow night

dont see what all the fuss is in 3 runs in 8 days the dogs run it no promblem at all over 480m, some short running types who dont quite get 480m might struggle but why they get entered to begin with is another topic alltogether
its what the trainers do or dont on the the rest days that makes the differance
