Wimbledon, The Future - copied from Greyhoundscene

The proposal project is a residential scheme that includes a commercial area for a multi-screen cinema.
The new development should replace the Wimbledon Greyhound Stadium, the only significant element in an area that when the project was developed presented a "grammarless" urban layout. The project takes its inspiration from the form of the stadium that brutally appears as you approach the site along Plough Lane.
The presence of a power station to the East of the site suggests this view should be screened and views in other directions privileged.
The radial and curvilinear layout of the plan best interprets the geometry of the site; maximizing the distance between the buildings, create interesting perspectives along the border routes and ensures that none of the apartments are north-facing.
The heart of the project is the square that acts as a filter between the residential area, that commences from the square, and the commercial area. The project envisages the creation of 13 residential buildings for a total of 798 apartments of which 55% are one bedroom, 35% two bedroom and the remaining 10% are three bedroom. 35% of the apartments are affordable and are concentrated in 4 buildings located in the north-west corner of the site.
The residential buildings vary in height, the highest being at the centre of the lot that corresponds to the square and ever lower towards the boundary, to ultimately reach the same height as existing constructions.
The commercial building is the dominating element characterized by a metal shell that terminates the profile of the project. The building is arranged on two floors that house 5 screens, a restaurant and a bar with direct access to the square.
A multi-storey car park located in the north-eastern corner, with access to the main entrance through Plough Lane together with a basement car park along the square offers 775 parking spaces for the commercial activity and for residential buildings.

I'm blinded by technical terms. No idea what it means regarding the future of greyhound racing at Plough Lane, wouldnt think it looks good though.

If Wimbledon goes the way of Walthamstow, that means Romford in Essex will be the closest track to the capital. Sad reflection of greyhound racing's plight

Like most people who follow dogs I have no faith in the GRA doing anything to promote the sport, but at least having the dog track incorporated within the new development plans is a positive. Taking it very much on face value it could be a real improvement on the present track.

I had a chat with Pascal Taggert a week or so ago. He said his plan for Wimbledon, compared to how Shelbourne Park is, would make SP a 3/10 facility by comparison.

I dont think galliard homes will have any interest in having a greyhound track on the complex ,major house builder in the london area ,the mention of them being involved is not good.
maybe while the sky mob and RP journalist are at the track on
saturday one of them could get their finger out and ask what is going on ,get dates etc .
The GRA have tried to destroyed this sport over the past 27 years ,I do not put it all down to bad management people
have got out with a nice few quid over the years .

What they also need to ask, and the big whole Cremin's piece, is how much of GRA do Galliard actually own.
I think Haynes showing an interest in the Post is a good thing, tbh. The GBGB needs to be involved in this issue.

get what you are saying catford, but there is strong support for ricky holloway to get the GTA chair on greyhound scene, and if he gets it, he will be going at loggerheads with john haynes and making him feel uncomfortable - john haynes speaking out here is the first i have ever heard of him doing anything worthwhile (willing to be proved wrong) and i cant help thinking its a little too coincidental for him now to be giving his wimbledon rallying cry at a time when people are unhappy with him and giving ricky all the support to make things uncomfortable for him.

Morrisons have put in bids for 4 other tracks apart from Wimbledon.  Would they be Belle Vue, Oxford, Hall Green & Perry Barr, (not sure about the last one).  Sorry Boys & Girls but unless Roman Abramovich gets bored with football and decides to go into dog racing big time and if that article is to be believed, then this really is THE END OF GREYHOUND RACING.  Don't worry about where to run the Derby, there won't be one.   Very, very sad.

As I understand it there is a restriction on the use of the land where Belle Vue currently stands and the building of a Supermarket would certainly not be allowed at the present time. These restrictions can be removed but you have to demonstrate a specific need and there are giant Tescos, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Asda within a couple of miles.

Very strong rumours at the track last night that the GRA are close to a deal with the Sheffield owners for the sale of Belle Vue.

Well at least "Merton Council has stated any redevelopment of the site should have an “intensification of sporting activity” and Galliard's plans don't include that. Hopefully their plans will be thrown out at the first planning stage on that basis alone.

Irish, there is a substantial difference between historical covenants and current council planning policy, with the latter more influential for council planning commitees.
I dont see what it has to do foreigners either tbh.

Galliard Homes – which co-owns the site since when have they owned part of the site ?
