Ok, in the past we did used to have the same conversation with each other many, many times. But somehow it didn't get boring.

Anyone want to talk about

a)Time
b)Hooverers
c)Striped blazered ferengi tobleroners
d)Tax

I am well versed in all of the above.
Report Feck N. Eejit April 19, 2012 3:25 PM BST
The disappearance of people like yourself helped make it the rooting corpse it is now pumpkin.

come on then explain to me what hoovering is? don't say get a Dyson
Report pumpkinslayertoo April 19, 2012 3:29 PM BST
It accepting money that is in the market when there is little or no chance of you losing. Photo finishes were a classic example. People would know the result and "hoover" all money being layed on the winner before betfair suspended the market.
Report pumpkinslayertoo April 19, 2012 3:30 PM BST
I'd have thought you might be more curious as to what a tobleroner is.
Report bob_terwilliger April 19, 2012 4:15 PM BST
but youve only posted 17 times?
Report U.A. April 19, 2012 4:21 PM BST
So all the people betting on VLV when the price was wrong were just hooverers. And they had the nerve to complain as well.

"rooting corpse" means something very different if you know Australian slang.

What is tobleroner then. PLease explain. Is it some kind of slang for a banker. I genuinely have no idea.
Report JLivermore April 19, 2012 4:45 PM BST
and whats a ferengi?  I used to hear that term all the time but never knew.

"but youve only posted 17 times?"
the clue is in the last 3 letters of his name...
Report Andriy April 19, 2012 4:51 PM BST
There's a ferengi definition here along with some other hidden BF forum meanings:

Muqbil's Ferengi definition was, I'm sure, tongue in cheek. Sad
Report Andriy April 19, 2012 5:33 PM BST
I presume it's meant specifically more for traders/scalpers etc rather than all winners.
Report Feck N. Eejit April 19, 2012 5:35 PM BST

I have posted many 1000's of times since 2001, just not on this account. Feck is responsible for the majority of terms that refer to traders. Ferengi, from Deep Space 9/star trek, alien race who act as middlemen with little concern for anything except profit, tobleroners-its a cheap bar of chocolate and refers to traders who aim to make that sort of money per trade.

I am of course forgetting the whole "hiding of the queue" debates Silly
Report pumpkinslayertoo April 19, 2012 6:08 PM BST
And of course "real liquidity". It's all coming back to me.

Last month, he suggested he might return to full-time trading. "You wouldn't believe how many people have asked me to manage their money," he said at the time.  Shocked

Did he return?

My all time favourite was PERVS (pouncing equilibrium storing value seekers) who, along with the visible SP bets, were supposedly going to make the betfair SP a raging success that could support bets of any size. I never felt I got the recognition I deserved for that one. Cry
Report catfleppo April 21, 2012 3:09 PM BST
I think I missed that one Feck, I'm sure it must have been "RE storing" too. Good one though...
Report Feck N. Eejit April 21, 2012 4:05 PM BST
Your right catfloppo, it was pouncing equilibrium restoring value seekers.
Report askari1 April 21, 2012 5:08 PM BST
Even the SP is a boon to traders in that the visible amounts can be spoofed. Why do the notional 1.01 backs need to be visible anyway?

I would like to hear something about TIME please. I kind of miss Adonis
Report catfleppo April 22, 2012 8:51 AM BST
Adonis!  He posted so much nonsense, his posts looked impressive until you actually read themLaugh

When he was banned from here he went onto the WBX forum where he didn't last long after lecturing one of the moderators about how they should be doing their job.

I last saw him on the purple forums refusing to place a bet there until he had fully evaluated their INTEGRITY Laugh

I've not been on the purple for ages, maybe he's still there is you need a fix.

Yes, he was there too. I hope he hasn't helped you with your code!
Report Feck N. Eejit April 22, 2012 10:53 AM BST
Why? Was he the sort of coder who could get a top job with betfair?
Report catfleppo April 22, 2012 10:58 AM BST
Ha ha.  He apparently wrote 10000 lines of code and when it failed to make money claimed that that hadn't been his intention in the first place. Excited
Report Feck N. Eejit April 22, 2012 11:13 AM BST

We obviously need a new charge/tax from BF to liven things up.
That ALWAYS does it.
Report Lori May 5, 2012 4:02 PM BST
The combination of a forum that barely works and a rise in posters who have very little to say but insist on saying plenty has made the place very difficult to care about.
Report Sandown May 8, 2012 12:53 PM BST
I've gone from being an interested, active forum contributor to someone who no longer wishes to  waste any time or energy on what is mostly tosh, trivia, repetition, feeble argument, squabbling, topic deviation, lack of basic courtesies, pedantry, simplistic nonsense from, with a few notable exceptions,a bunch of deluded morons who you wouldn't want to go anywhere near in the real world.

The decline set in some time ago and I don't see any sign of improvement. It's a shame because the forum and the GF in particular, was once one of BF's USP's. BF have allowed this to happen because they have exercised no editorial control.
Report FINE AS FROG HAIR May 8, 2012 1:50 PM BST
I can just imagine all the screams of protest if BF ever did indulge in " editorial control ".
It seems once again that BF can't win whatever it does.
Having said that, Sandown does make very pertinent observations, but I think his vision of an intelligent and polite debating forum is unachievable here or anywhere in fact.
