Seriously hope not but the man's driven and ambitious and will one day become the boss of a top club - maybe Man U or his ex club Dortmund.

One message for the Villa players though - expect to come in 2 weeks early from your summer hols for fitness training - happened with Colchester players just prior to the 7-1 Norwich thrashing a few years ago. Lambo measures fitness levels against German standards - no surprise that Norwich ran the most yards of all sides in Premier League campaign.

Cheers Paul, top man.

Agree but another step up the ladder in cv terms...Sad
Report mexicano May 15, 2012 8:01 PM BST
if he  goes to villa all he can do is fail, putting a big dent in his healthy looking cv, he'll sit tight and wait for a better chance imo.
Report MONEY TREE May 15, 2012 8:02 PM BST
rob think its a step down now.
Report MONEY TREE May 15, 2012 8:03 PM BST
owner wants to save money not spend so you get stuck with the donkies.

its a bad job for ex~wycombe managers too.
Report maggot May 15, 2012 8:05 PM BST
I would argue that it's a good time to take the reins at Villa. They are at an all time low, and maybe the only way is up.
Report Meat Loaf May 15, 2012 8:05 PM BST
Gus Poyet is the interesting one in this market....fits the bill perfectly of being a "young", "vibrant" manager.

norwichrob - whats the feeling in norwich - do you think he will leave?
Report NorwichRob May 15, 2012 8:08 PM BST
Trust me - he won't fail, knowledge of the game and tactical awareness has been extremely impressive - Norwich were worse than hopeless when he arrived, the man's a miracle worker...Cry
Report MONEY TREE May 15, 2012 8:09 PM BST
not sure maggot as the owner was said to want to stop spending, can he improve with the players there already?
Report NorwichRob May 15, 2012 8:10 PM BST
I think the feeling has always been here that he will leave when he's made his mark, if it was Liverpool it would be a certainty but I still feel he will go.
Report Coachbuster May 15, 2012 8:18 PM BST
Why Villa ,not much of a step up from Norwich really
Report NorwichRob May 15, 2012 8:19 PM BST
The only certainty is that he will get the best out of the players - Norwich team entirely made up of League 1 & Championship players, no prima donnas or foreigners, he puts his faith in young, hungry players - so maybe a clear out of sorts at Villa over the summer.
Report GAZO May 15, 2012 8:19 PM BST

Villa bigger in the eyes of the establishment, and a good chance to revive the glory days?
Report Coachbuster May 15, 2012 8:23 PM BST
their glory days were 30 years ago  - they don't have the finances to compete today

i think he will move to a club where finances are in place  ,maybe in 2 years
Report Hamsterdam May 15, 2012 8:23 PM BST
What's he like in the transfer market that's my main concern as there will be lots of coming and goings. I think realists will realise Lambert would jump at the chance to manage such a big club.
Report Coachbuster May 15, 2012 8:26 PM BST
i'd be shocked if he went to Villa
Report MONEY TREE May 15, 2012 8:29 PM BST

any bigger than say wigan?
Report GAZO May 15, 2012 8:30 PM BST
he would be going to a bigger club with possibly more money to spend and better players already at villa than he has at norwich and he will get more money personally,if offered the job i would be shocked if he didnt go

Report MONEY TREE May 15, 2012 8:37 PM BST
so the past indicates that you are a big club?

nearly going down means nothing?
Report CJ May 15, 2012 8:39 PM BST
What's not to like about the Villa job?

Lerner will  back him.

A very good academy, with many youngsters already forced into first team action.

Follows on from a dismal season with expectation at its lowest ebb.

The biggest club for miles around, with the potential to be putting 40k bums on seats with the right football.

I don't want to patronise Norwich, but the club is fairly limited in terms of growth. He probably has taken them as far as he can (some leeway there perhaps).

If offered it, he'd be mad not too IMHO.

Villa were 9th before the injury crisis took out 5 or 6 first team players.

They need to strengthen no doubt, but the squad isn't as weak as the media would have everyone believe.

I really rate Lambert but the Villa job looks a poisoned chalice for a while, too many players finished, not sure if the youngsters are up to it, who can they attract?

Sit tight Lambert, you'll get better opportunities

Report NorwichRob May 15, 2012 8:46 PM BST
I suppose the question for PL to consider is how much further can he take Norwich as stated earlier, perhaps a couple of places at best, main issue for Norwich fans is that we could go back as quick as we came if he and his coaching team leave.
Report Mighty Whites 2008 May 15, 2012 8:46 PM BST
Managerial moves are all about timing. Villa is perfect for a manager like Lambert to take. He has done a fabulous job at Norwich back to back promotions and survival but the second season is always tough. If he left Norwich now he would have left after three incredible years. The wage bill and transfer budget at Villa will be higher than Norwich. Villa also have a good crop of youngsters coming through. A good manager with a few shrewd signing will probably have them comfortable mid table.

I would have thought this was the perfect time for Lambert to move on and Villa are a big club under performing. It wouldn't be hard for him to improve their position and in turn further enhance his reputation which would make him a contender for a really big club in two to three years time.

Norwich will surely go back down the food chain and gobble up the next big thing in the lower league like they did with Lambert.

The club is in fabulous shape, and punching well above its weight. They will have the pick of the crop. I wouldn't be so despondent NR. That's IF he goes, which at this stage is far from certain.

Villa went very left field to get Mcleish, who knows what Lerner and co have in mind. Confused

top 10? that's about their mark. 6th in a good season 10th in a bad season.

but will that be enough for the fans?

he could go there and have a 12th then 8th finish, then the fans would start getting on his back.

no money to spend and dwindling crowds.

i'd certainly agree that the likes of lambert and rodgers should steer well clear. better opportunities should come along sooner or later
Report richardf May 16, 2012 9:22 PM BST
AS a lifelong Norwich fan, I fear that he may go to Villa. He has probably taken us as far as he can. Can we possibly finish higher next season than this? Almost certainly not, but for sure not more than a place or two. And Villa are on their @rses.....great time to go there I wold have thought. Lambo is an absolutely brilliant club manager......fantastic man manager, outstanding with the fans and also manages up very, very well.
I would be gutted to see him leave, but if he does I wish him well. Villa are a bigger club than we are and that is not likely to change.
Lambert is destined for the very top in the managerial game and Villa is, I fear, another step in that direction.
