He was on benefits. Hes been on tv programmes and countless newspaper articles.

Magic his circumstances are a big part of the story as hes been asking for bigger premises for years

this is my point entirely. The children's deaths are overshadowed by something that has fk all to do with the story. Also the sympathy towards the father will be diminished, due to something entirely unrelated

On a related matter, Daily Mail online reader shows compassion for the firemen who dealt with the fire and the aftermath...

They get very well paid for what they do and they have special equipment to help them. They are not forced to do this work."

Maybe they don't like finding children, who have died from smoke inhalation or even worse, burned to death.

Always seems to be uber lowlifers that die in house fires,don't state dependent families have a spare fiver for a smoke alarm? Shocking for the poor kids losing their future due to having a subhuman father,though seems a woman has been nicked.

Bon , you are right. We all  have faults and big ones too but this guy was clearly someone you couldnt respect in any way. Not to do with being on benefits but the whole picture. He always seemed to be able to buy the latest England shirt.

Just read on C4 website that he's father of 18! kids,though in fairness old bill said he made valiant attempts to save them.Seems they likely died of smoke inhalation.

This is somewhat badtaste but i have visions of a sort of Viz "8ACE" character for the father.

if I remember correctly, when he was on central news a while ago he did have a job at some point. Obviously with the number of kids he knocked out, he was never going to earn what he could get in benefits. His wife and girlfriend were both with him on tv and were happy with the set up, you could see though that they weren't the full shilling and it seems it was the girlfriend who started the fire.

Seriously, the government should put money into researching this idea: it could save them a fortune in child benefit.

Very sad news about the children. On the issue of fathering how about rediscovering the concept that you are responsible for your own actions. You father children then you pay for them and don't expect the rest of society to pick up the tab. Any other way and eventually the system will collapse.

Unfortunately, even if those nine earn a median salary (£26k-ish), it ain't going to be enough, given the costs of education at one end, and healthcare at the other.

Our entire financial model has gone up the Swanee because we've found a way to keep people alive for years, but not alive and healthy. Not only are the old not contributing, but they're costing those who do work an arm and a leg.

It's one of the things that led to the collapse of the Japanese economy, and it's coming our way too. China is next. Give it 20 years and they're f*cked demographically unless they can foster mass immigration, which ain't gonna happen unless they liberalize at least a little.
