Worked at Sullom Voe, Shetland, while the oil terminal was being built in 79/80.
More remote, still, was a 1 year stint at Mt. Pleasant, Falkland Isles, where the airfield was being built.
En route to the Falklands, I travelled from Cape Town, which is well off the beaten track for commercial shipping, so I rteckon that halfway across the South Atlantic is the remotest place I've been.
We started from the West Australian side, RLK. Out to Kalgoorlie first - the ghost towns on the way were incredible, like film sets.
At Southern Cross, we decided there were plenty of places to refuel before getting there and as each town turned out to be deserted, the atmosphere in the car got a little more tense! Great trip.

While camping at Sligachan on Skye, we walked down Glen Sligachan to camp overnight on the shore of Loch Coruisk. Much rather that than the easy way by boat from Elgol.

Nordkapp, Norway. The furthest point North on the European mainland. Flew in on a light plane, slept in a field, flew out. Don't bother. Might as well go the whole hog and go to the real Arctic.

Did you stop the night at camowheel churchill? That's between mt isa and townsville isn't it, hardly anyone lives there. I really wanted to stop the night there just to say i'd done it and because my dad stopped there for a short time in the sixties.
Is basically just a roadhouse isn't it?

A 4 pub town, was staying in the Youth Hostel and only one other guest, a Belgian guy who for 90% of the time was out of his face on drugs.

Lol at Kalgoorlie (topless barmaids everywhere, had a major arguement with the gf there because i wanted to go in to watch the Englaish footy but wasn't allowed to go to the bar (or even look over) and Cook had a population of 2 (or may have been 1).
