Although we didn't get any points looking at it positively we are only one good winner off the top.
I had a shocking day on here getting disqualified for tipping a winner that was 15 minutes too late, and then forgetting about the wildcard. I backed four winners of my own (maybe a bit of justice) so a fair chance I might have got us a few points.
Good luck next week. Plenty of jump cards during the week.

Well pretty much as we were at the start of the week. Still no points, but two selections in hand of everyone except the Thieves. It's been a tricky week, and it doesn't get much easier tomorrow. Fingers crossed we can land a couple of winners, and shake the table up a bit.

So many meetings, but I couldn't find many options today. Left with a choice between a relatively solid one (Cormier), and one that takes a bit more guesswork. Ended up with the latter. At least I will know my fate early.

Well Mick's done us one good turn in the same colours so hopefully he can do it again. Ran a bit better than the final placing suggests on comeback, and this all rests on finding some improvement for the step up in trip on softer ground. Jock has had a few nice priced winners recently including one yesterday. Togai might be problematical in getting to the front, but not sure that horse wants soft ground, or is much good. Sitting second wouldn't be too bad. Has been nibbled 16/1-12/1. Thought about going win, but at that price can just about get away with the each way.
Good luck all.

This looks like it might be an above average bumper for the track. The two I liked were this one and the other ex-pointer, Imonlysaying. The latter is now around 3/1, and Abbeyhill is as big as 25/1. My reading of the point runs would be that there shouldn't be anything like that much between them. Abbeyhill picked up very nicely to win his point, and is ridden by the same jock. Perhaps the concern is that he hasn't been sold? It is also unusual for the owner not to have 'Bally' in the name. Not been an easy week so fingers crossed for a change of luck with this one.
Good luck all.

Although I backed the winner that was at 12/1, and I couldn't have put him up at 11/4. He looks a very good prospect. As for the selection he has now been pulled up, won easily, and tonight stopped as if shot. That might explain why he hadn't been sold.
Let's hope for better luck tomorrow.

Fav is obvs a good horse and will be tough to beat, but is FTO. AF was weak in market on debut, suggesting it was not fully tuned up. I think AF has the beating of all the others and is over priced

It's been another rough punting week highlighted by not backing the only decent winner I have had all week.
Yet again we are looking at miracles being a 25/1 winner adrift. The best I could find over here was a 10/1 shot which won't be good enough so I have gone to Ireland for the selection:-

I don't expect him to beat the favourite so in an ideal world you would be betting without Native Trail, but we don't have that option. Outside the favourite I don't think there is much between the rest, and that includes this one who is as big as 125/1. So far he has shown plenty of ability, but raced too freely and not seen out his races. He is bred to stay at least a mile. I am hoping the jockey switch will find a couple of lengths and Billy Lee might just be able to conserve something for the finish.
Good luck all.

Well there won't be a more accurate write up for relatively little reward as 125/1 became 40/1. Fortunately, I had a couple of bets without the favourite, including one at 40/1. Top ride.

Thanks, it's nice to have winning bets now and again, but this competition is proving very frustrating. Johan shortening from 33/1-28/1 and Cash being beaten a short head was the difference between us getting two wins. Couldn't have won today, but the horse shortening from a freely available 125/1 to 40/1 was the difference between 130 points and 45 points. It seems a very poor reward. You keep hoping the luck will change at some point.
I commented about your own selection on the main thread. Absolutely no doubt it should have won.

Maybe my memory isn't very good, but I can't remember quite so much junk as we have had this week. Take out the Irish Guineas meeting, and Sandown midweek and it has just been mediocre after mediocre race. Had a look ahead to tomorrow and I couldn't see any betting opportunities at all so with that bleak outlook this is the best I could do:-
8.40 Stratford Patanita Win
Not much to say. Easy pointing flat winner on only start, and this looks a very ordinary race under similar conditions. Second favourite looks the possible danger, but that one is hooded, and has a very unreliable profile. At the moment around 1/1, but I would gladly take any winner this week.
Fingers crossed, it would be nice to go into tomorrow 2/2, however poor the return.
Good luck all.

Well that went entirely as planned. That's two in a row, what's going on? It didn't win by that much, but it travelled on the bridle, and was always going to win.
Anyway, although we have been headed this is easily the best position we have been in going into a Saturday. For once there isn't any pressure to go big, in this situation any winner is a good winner.

Bad luck Oily. Unfortunately, I don't think it was one of Stewards more difficult decisions. Anyway, I don't think we can quibble at 4 winners, and a couple of crossbars. Perhaps we can start the competition again? Seriously, we have been pretty unlucky to be propping up the table. It's very close at the top this week, but hopefully we can carry the good run into next week.

Well someone's got to go first. Nothing great I am afraid. Millions of races over the next two days, but as with most of the last two weeks if you throw out the low grade handicaps, and the guessing at newcomers races, you are not left with vey much to go at. Probably the same next week ahead of Royal Ascot.
3.10 Epsom Manobo Win
I am hoping that my first thought was wrong as I was going to side with Hukum. Having thought about it a bit more I think this will be too stiff a stamina test for him. Yes, he has been running over much further than his full brother, but I still see him as speed over stamina. I am guessing that Godolphin only stepped Manobo up in trip because they already had Adayar and Hurricane Lane. He had shown plenty of promise over this trip, albeit not at this level. I think Pyledriver will always be vulnerable at Grade 1 level, and High Definition, rather than improving last time, benefitted from a well judged ride.
Good luck all. Hopefully, we can remain competitive.

Very disappointing second week, slipping from 1st to 5th, all the more disappointing that it was very close. Had I stuck with Hukum we would have been second, but that said our only winner was by default.
One week to salvage something. Unfortunately, the first week will be more low grade stuff, but at least we have Royal Ascot next week.

As expected the Saturday before Royal Ascot isn't great, so decided to take a chance on one tomorrow. At this stage it doesn't really matter too much.
8.15 Fairyhouse Universal Focus EW
No big story it's a pretty shocking race, but hopefully reuniting with Billy Lee, who is riding as well as anyone, will make a few pounds difference. At this level that might be enough. The original 33/1 has all but disappeared, and no real surprise if he goes off around 16/1, or shorter.
Good luck all.

Not a great week so far, but not so bad that if Brave Nation wins the first I will move into profit. You really need to land on a couple of big prices to guarantee a profit because it is virtually impossible to nail all the 'right' favourites. Yesterday I managed to hit all the favourites that bombed while the rest of them won. Such is the punting life.
I started the week thinking Highfield Princess was my most confident bet. Still hopeful, but now a little concerned about the Aussie favourite. Let's hope it isn't as good as Tuesday's winner.
So shelved that and gone with one today.
4.20 Tashkhan Win
If we are ever going to win a round, absolutely no point in going each-way, although that's where all my actual bets have gone. I really fancied Scope to win this, and find the decision not to run overly cautious, particularly given his profile, and the fact the race is very much up for grabs. Kyprios has plenty to prove, and Stradivarius was tonked last year on his favoured ground. Why should he be any better this year? So if you fancy Scope you have got to fancy Tashkhan at a much bigger price - around 25/1. He is still open to plenty of improvement. The ground might be a concern, but at least they have given it a shot. Let's see.
