The Aviation Club de France in the heart of Paris was the venue for the 11th edition of the European Poker Awards, which took place on Thursday. In total there were nine awards presented thought the category that everyone had their eye on was the European Player of the Year accolade. The selection committee chose six players who they thought were worthy of the title European Player of the Year, those being Jake Cody, Pius Heinz, Andrey Pateychuk, Bertrand 'ElkY' Grospellier, Eugene Katchalov and Sam Trickett. Any of the six would have been worthy recipients but when the votes were counted up it was Trickett who had captured the judges imaginations and he was revealed as the 2011 European Player of the Year. Trickett's achievements during 2011 were nothing short of amazing, notching...

The inaugural Epic Poker League (EL) Main Event has now reached the money as the 137 players who parted company with $20,000 have been whittled down to the final 18. Each of the surviving players is now guaranteed $43,190 but none of them will want to be taking home that amount, especially as there is now a $1,000,000 first place prize on offer. At the start of Day 2 there were 63 runners and they voted to take $17,340 from the second place prize and add it to the winner's total so that the eventual champion takes home $1,000,000 and it is Britain's Sam Trickett who is the man on course for this massive cash prize as he ended the day with a massive stack of 1,032,000, almost 400,000 more chips than his nearest rival. It has been quite a year for Trickett, who is currently ranked 30th...

Just three days ago we brought you the news of British poker pro Sam Trickett winning the 2011 Aussie Millions $100,000 High Roller event for a career best cash of $1,525,000, well just hours ago he added another $1,400,000 to his bankroll by coming second in the most-expensive poker tournament ever played. There had been rumours of a $250,000 Super High Roller event taking place but they were dismissed as that, rumours. However, late yesterday evening news broke that the quarter of a million Australian dollar buy-in tournament was definitely going ahead and that 13 players had already bought in. By the time the tournament kicked off there were 18 players who had parted company with the equivalent of twenty-five $10,000 WSOP Main Event entries, split across two tables. Anyone who pays...

Sam Trickett has started 2011 just as he ended 2010, on fire at the tables! The previous 12 months saw the Nottingham -born former professional footballer net $1,071,356 from live tournaments and he has added a further $1,525,000 to that total after winning the Aussie Millions $100,000 Challenge. Trickett has live scores dating back to 2007 but it was the following year that the poker community really started to take notice of him. He finished fourth from 805 entrants in a $5,000 No Limit Hold'em event for $245,927 and he followed that up a month later by winning the Luton leg of the GUKPT for £109,050. Although 2009 was pretty quiet by his standards, netting “only” $94,894, he exploded in 2010 and took the world by storm. It started badly with his long-term girlfriend leaving...
