The best kareokes of the last few weeks for me

1. John    - Song for you    What a travesty he only lasted 3 weeks and his won him a massive 5%. To be expected of course Laugh
2. Rebecca - Make you feel my love     Persuaded me to back her. More of this and she'd have won at a canter
3. Aiden - Mad World         Sadly, very much his high point
4. Matt  - The way you are    Persuaded me to back him, though I was loathe to admit it at the time ;-)
5. Matt  -  Whiter Shade of Pale     Sealed the deal for him really, while Rebecca was floudering

George

Yes agree with all that.  I thought Mary sang a couple of decent songs too and Cher's 'Stay' was very good I thought.

However the number one stand out for me was 'First time ever I saw your Face' ................ just brilliant and I think he won it then when he sand it on the live show about 6 weeks ago.
Report GeorgeBrush December 13, 2010 11:01 AM GMT
Sweets dreams was fun, but how does it compare to MYFML Papa?
Report paddletoe December 13, 2010 11:02 AM GMT
I think the song choice is more important than vocals. Missed Matt singing whiter shade of pale. Its my favourite all time song. I would say its a very nostalgic song for a lot of middle aged voters so a very food choice. Personally my favourite of the whole series was Rebeccas final song last night.
Report GymTanLaundry December 13, 2010 11:02 AM GMT
i thought it was brilliant GB - but then again i was sitting on a massive ONE D red at the time, and a brilliant performance like that was very VERY welcome!!

Yeah, was reviewing a couple of Mary's Lou

They don't stand up to close scrutiny for me, but impressive first time out. John's I could happily watch 100 times

Did you not think 'First Time Ever' was a real classic moment?  'Night in White Satin' and 'The Way you Are' great too but not quite as good.
Report Helmuthian Folds December 13, 2010 11:11 AM GMT
In no particular order.......

Rebecca - Show me love
Matt - Baby one more time
Aiden - Mad world
Rebecca MYFML
Report GeorgeBrush December 13, 2010 11:13 AM GMT
It showed of all the aspects of him that irritated me Lou. And I think that's what knackered his throat
Report paddletoe December 13, 2010 11:13 AM GMT
Oh seems like i did not miss matt singing whiter shade of pale after all....

I thought the whole final weekend was a big let down until Matt and Rebecca gave their final performances. Both were fantastic. But i think Rebeccas version of Distant Dreams was simply stunning. Obviously, she could not sing this song earlier in the competition as it was going to be her winners song, but if she had been able to i think it could have swung the result. It definately would have been closer.

In no particular order -

Rebecca - MYFML, Candle in the wind (much underrated. The last 30 secs are sublime)Show me Love, Wicked Game, Sweet Dreams.

Matt - Baby one more time (it persuaded me to back him) FTEISYF, Mights in white satin.

Aiden - Mad world.

Cher - Hard Knock Life, Stay and her duet.

Mary - Something.

John I remember being quite impressed at the time, but have no idea what he sang.

1D - hmmmmmmmmmmmm

rebecca was so much more relaxed and confident doing "up tempo" songs like sweet dreams and teardrops. im convinced she would have won if she had changed and done one "up beat" song saturday night.

rmb well done if u made money but dont make mistake of over rating him;ordinary winner imo could be another brookstein
Report Dizzy42 December 13, 2010 4:31 PM GMT
My favourites, without betting bias:

Rebecca - Make You Feel My Love, Feeling Good, Sweet Dreams and Distant Dreamer (I thought she was tremendous last night, albeit too late in the game to have an impact)
Matt - First Time Ever I Saw Your Face, Nights in White Satin and Many of Horror (too few highlights after he peaked early, which made him a bit of a disappointing winner)
Cher - Stay (although Clapping Song was probably her best performance of the season on Saturday night)
Aiden - Mad World (sadly proved to be his one and only highlight)
Katie - Help (not surprised to see her runner up in the vote that week)

And for sheer irony, the highlight of the whole pantomime had to be Wagner singing 'Creep'!

The voting stats show how weak the opposition was to Matt, particularly given that he failed to shine after week five, with the exception of one song (NIWS).  Had Rebecca sparked into life earlier or repeated the high of MYFML she could have been a real challenger.

The best performance of the series was when the credits came up last night at the end of the last show.

We have now been spared this garbage for a few months.

Now, now Barney Boy...  It's a pantomime, but we all love it really!  If it wasn't for Christmas round the corner, I'd be lost (how sad does that make me?!) Laugh
Report Denman The Destroyer December 13, 2010 7:33 PM GMT
I thought Sweet Dreams was sensational for Rebecca, the wow moment came too late because of Cheryl's failings.
Report squares December 13, 2010 7:39 PM GMT
wasn't Sweet Dreams a song that Cheryl wanted Rebecca to sing previously but Rebecca stuck up for what she wanted to do, although I think that was Show Me Love.  Instead of Just Like a Star would have been good, or a duet with Annie Lennox would have been sensational.
Report squares December 13, 2010 7:41 PM GMT

I was driving and can't remember the descriptive words he used but something along the lines of the reason an anodine ?  ?  ? pasty-faced Matt won against a ? ? ? ? like Rebecca was because of all the bitter women at home alone with a bottle.

He should have added that it's probably because of blokes like Matt that they are bitter and at home alone with a bottle.

Cher was the best performer by a mile.

Gamu's Feel your love was the best display of singing and it contains the single best note I have ever heard on one of these.

George Bush and BarnabySpears I was think the exact same but the other way around!! Anyone who didn't like Cher's performance of Stay needs to book an appointment with Hidden Hearing!!
Report GymTanLaundry December 14, 2010 5:43 PM GMT
i thought stay was quite average.  lots of backing production holding it up.

cher should now fade to obscurity - a c*nt of the highest order.  can't rap, can't sing, and a disgusting attitude.
Report melv December 15, 2010 11:49 AM GMT
George we are talking about performance here. Stay was a brilliant brilliant performance. Filmic.

Cher has a chance of making it. If she does it will be as an original. A rare thing.

GTL: Cher is a 17yo girl and in case you haven't notice most girls of her age have bad attitudes! They are just trying to grow up.

She should deffo make it big, she just needs to mature a bit which will come as she gets older.
Report GymTanLaundry December 15, 2010 1:22 PM GMT
donal - she's a 17 year old c*nt.

most 17 year olds can be a bit "difficult", but they don't all act like her.

for what it's worth, aiden and paije were 18 and 19 respectively and both behaved with dignity and reason, despite some harsh and bizarre comments at times.

cher is a little tw@t and the sooner she f*cks off back to malvern and disappears into obscurity the better.
