Has anyone been paid on this? I had 3 EW bets before the start of the tournament, total £175 EW.  According to the offer I think I should have £175 in free bets but can't find this anywhere on the site.  Have others been paid?  If, so, how do I access the free bets.  I'll contact SJ in the morning but I'm interested in any other experience

Not had a penny back yet either. And as you say they don't have a facility to offer free bets on their website. Disgusting.
Report mukdahan July 13, 2010 10:43 AM BST
no refund here either it daid it could take up to 48 hrs seems like they want to hold on as long as possible
Report shrewdbury July 13, 2010 12:06 PM BST
Did they really offer refuds for all bets if Spain won?
Report crediter July 13, 2010 1:16 PM BST
need to check the offer....was it outright....was it a draw after 90mins...did extra time count....i would say youd be ok....lot of settling for bookies to sort out.

The offer was 'If Spain win the World Cup'.

I've e-mailed them and got a vague reply aboout 'all free bets being credited within 24 hours'

I had £50 on Holland and would now like it back!
Report shrewdbury July 13, 2010 3:51 PM BST
Did that result cost them a fortune then??

P45 for the 'ideas' guy who came up with the promotion? Laugh
Report miz July 13, 2010 4:17 PM BST
c'mon they'll have weighted their book appropriately and the overround on the others will cover it. Sill waiting on my 250 on brasil mind ../
Report shrewdbury July 13, 2010 4:51 PM BST
Were they shortest about Spain then?

I have received my free bets but am not entirley happy. You were supposed to have your stake returned as I did but I could not withdraw it and placed my £250 on an odds on shot which won at 1.67 and they have taken my stake off me and I am now worse off despite having a winning bet with it???
Anyone else having a free bet should not back an odds on shot in my opinion unless they have made a mistake in settling my bet:/
Report jerclarke July 13, 2010 7:34 PM BST
Important further information!!!!!!!!!!

I think if I had put only £2 of my free £250 on my first bet I would lose the other £248!!

sorry jerclarke but thats just not true. You've got to read the terms and conditions of these promotions.
To be fair to SJ it clearly said your refund would be in the form of a free bet but your stake would not be refunded if the bet won.

By the way Wessex my £250 free bet was in my account this afternoon.

Ok I admit i did not read the small print and am simply trying to advise others as to how to best use their free bets.
The terms are not obvious in the article I read.
I am no newcomer to gambling and should know better as I was born into a racing family but still acted hastily so I am unsue others may too:/
Report Shaky July 13, 2010 9:19 PM BST
the free bet is like any other bet, backing an odds on shot might return you less money, but it gives you a better chance of getting a return and not ending up with nothing, which is the most likely result of backing an odds against bet.
Report jerclarke July 13, 2010 9:25 PM BST
agreed shaky but backing a 1.5 shot would make a £100 free bet worth £33.33 and backing a 3.0 shot would make it worth £66.66.
The longer the price the better the value but yes as you say you are less likely to get a return.
I learn by my mistake as i did after my first racecourse experience :/

Yes, my free bet is there as well - thanks for replies
Report Clarky9 July 13, 2010 9:59 PM BST
Why don't you just put your £250 free bet on a evens shot and then arb £125 profit on here?

If it wins you're £125 up and if it loses you are £125 minus commission....
Report jerclarke July 13, 2010 10:17 PM BST
Best value is to back highest priced selection you can afford to lay on Betfair;)
Report Clarky9 July 13, 2010 10:26 PM BST
Yeah, for example a 10/1 shot that you can lay at 11.0 on here.

£250 to win £2500

Lay £230 on here....
Report jerclarke July 13, 2010 10:42 PM BST
agreed, so your bet is worth about £230 and not the £100 mine was worth after backing an odds on shot;) What an idiot I was!! :/

I am convinced there will be people placing a £10 bet out of their £250 and i think you automatically lose the other £240 of free bets as it must be placed as one bet!!!!!!!!!!!
Report DIE LINKE July 14, 2010 12:59 AM BST
ballacks to laying, stick the £250 on an ante-post 20/1 shot. i do remember reading it was refunded as a freebie at the time.
Report dukeofpuke July 14, 2010 1:01 AM BST
best thing to do is this the free bet balance will last for 30 days

so best to back long odds lets say golfers around the 20-1 or bigger and lay on here for a small loss

you should at least be able to get back £240 maybe more if your are astute

if you cant find enough golfers try the horses as that works as well and also correct scores but not that many big live games at the moment as its those that you need

if your 30 days are nearly up and you still have free bet funds left then give them a ring and they will extend it say you are on holiday or something like that

also you dont have to use your free bet all in one go its a free £250 bet balance so dont try and get it on a golfer at 33-1 they wont accept it
you might get £10 £20 £50 depending on the event also if you are restricted etc etc
Report crisp packet July 14, 2010 10:19 PM BST
just had my 50 refunded from brazil, backed mcilroy @ 16/1 with sj laid him on here for 45 - locked in £43, so your 250 would guarantee £215

shocking lack of balls/adventure on show here.
Report bbsband July 15, 2010 12:41 AM BST
agree why cant they bet like men? extremley shocking lack of balls/nuts/ at the end of the day if you had a free sta n j ames bet you were a loser anyway therefore the lack of balls explains itself.....go away pls
Report Clarky9 July 15, 2010 11:39 PM BST
I had £250 on England at 13/2 and layed on here at 7.4.

I now have a £250 free balance....
