Lots of tennis this week with most eyes being on Rafael Nadal in Båstad. People will also be confused with having Båstad and Gstaad on in the same week.

Shnaider was 9/2 favourite for Budapest which would indicate that the chances of the decent price at anything other than the better tournaments have gone for good. The fact Sorribes Tormo was second favourite would seem to suggest than Shnaider should be up to winning this, but is 9/2 much value when you take into account whether she is carrying an injury, how she will react to the Wimbledon disappointment, and how much is she actually bothered about winning?

I found out something really cool, for us enthusiasts, about the forum search earlier. As most people will been victim to or will have seen others become victim to, the forum eats posts if you quote a post that contains a double space between characters.

What I found out is this: The posts might not show up on the forum, but they can be found in the forum search and are in the source code of the page. Likely completely, but I haven't done a full verification of that yet.

So if someone gets caught out by that bug after they had just written a long reply, they can retrieve their post from the page's source code instead of writing it all again.

Tried to test about the triple quote bug where you had been caught out by it in the Trump thread and found two caveats.

1. If the post is not within the latest 50 messages of a thread, then for some reason any messages before that do not show up in the source code even if you hit "Show More" and can see the post on your screen.
2. Seems to only work in live view even for recent posts.
Report edy July 20, 2024 2:56 PM BST
So if you wanna know, we'll need to trigger the triple quote bug here.

With this I mean it does not work in standard view, as far as I can tell. Recency, as far as time since is concerned, does not matter. What matters for my current knowledge on the method is that the post was within the latest 50 posts of a thread (i.e. is accessible in liveview without clicking on "Show More).

Rafa has done well this week to even get to an ATP final, but all this talk about how he was one of the best 15 players at Roland Garros and would have made QF or so if he hadn't drawn Zverev in R1 ... not so much. If this is his level, I don't see him playing in 2025.
Report Platini July 21, 2024 2:10 PM BST
Its a match too far for him at this stage.

If he plays this guy 1st or 2nd round, he despatches him with ease. But he's cooked now.

Shnaider gets the job done. Could have got turned over by Stollar in the first round, but straight sets thereafter. Credit that she justified favouritism. Doesn't always happen that the obvious standout wins these smaller events. That's three wins now, and two out of the last three. Couldn't see her listed on oddschecker for the US Open?

Decent match-up between Zheng and Muchova. Be surprised if Zheng doesn't take the final set. Movement better, and has the greater weight of shot.
Report SamuelMertensBertens July 21, 2024 9:52 PM BST
This post Wimbledon lull is usually a good chance for new names to break through, but hard to do that in a week with lots of top players playing. Good showings by Shnaider and Fils though, even though they had won events before. And Borges did well, but I'm not reading much into that in a field that fell apart and with a tired Rafa on the other side.
