A repeat of last years final, Novak into his 37th slam final at the age of 37. Djokovic is lucky he's got a chance to avenge last years final at his age,

Alcaraz going for his 4th slam at the age of 21 and 2 months old
Federer won his first slam when he was nearly 22 years old
Nadal won his 4th slam when he'd just turned 22 years old
Novak won his 4th slam when he was 24 and a half

win tomorrow and Alcaraaz is ahead of all of them at his age, and with competition no where near the level of the big 3 in their prime, people doubt whether he could win 30 slams.

Having said that I think Novak will win even though Alcaraz is fave.

Kind Regards.

Around 2011 or so, before Andy had even won a Slam, I said he was one of the top 10 best tennis players ever on the pure basis of hanging with the other Big 4. I was laughed at at the time, but I stand by the opinion I had at the time and he obviously made even more of a case for this in upcoming years.
Report SamuelMertensBertens July 14, 2024 3:13 PM BST
Probably a little bit early to count Novak out just weeks after surgery, but the more alarming problem is that he hasn't looked good all year.
Report mesmerised July 14, 2024 3:15 PM BST
yep, he was the only player who could compete and live with them. Wawrinka tried but never came as consistently close as Murray.

I thought Novak would win today because he'd bring his A game when it mattered and wouldn't be here if he wasn't 100% because surely he'd know anything less and he wouldn't beat Carlos, not over yet though but I don't like his body language, he seems a bit resigned to defeat, not getting angry, no demostrative behaviour, again not a good sign.
Report mesmerised July 14, 2024 3:16 PM BST
his movement is very poor
Report Angela Rebecchi July 14, 2024 3:17 PM BST
Novak was poor in the final last year, shocking against Sinner in Aus. If things stay as is here it certainly looks like his time has come, sooner than I thought it would. Unless of course the knee is giving him issues here. He doesn't seem to be moving 100% to me at all personally.

I'd say it's actually sad to witness, Murray did the right thing, eventually, and retired knowing he couldn't cut it at the top level anymore, though I could have told him that 5 years ago

RE Hennin v Mauresmo in 2006

I've always thought that Henin knew she was going to lose becaue of the scoreline and because of how she felt, taking treatment for a shoulder injury throughout the tournament, but could have carried on til the end - but because she didn't like Amelia, she took away her moment for her first Grand Slam win but not having that euphoric moment at match point, and so jusst retired.
