I think today I saw the first universal heat break ever (or in a while) at a tournament. Not like one of those 10 extra minute things after a finished set, but where match play on all courts was stopped near simultaneously mid set (but not mid game). It was certainly not raining, there were no visible snakes, no nothing. Several hours later play was then resumed.
It was the ITF tournament in Zephyrhills, so information on the real reason is hard to come by, but I checked a weather website shortly after the start of the interruption and it said 35°C (feels like 38°C). Which sounds somewhat dangerous, especially in broad sunlight as was the case there. |

hey edy and caramba, watch Lena's press conference from today in Rome and give me your thoughts..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lTEMKkHwxdo |
By:
and this interview, also today
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZJFS3Utzko Lena seems over this tennis thing.. |
By:
I would need to know what a press conference with her otherwise looks like. I think she is primarily bored with playing all these consecutive weeks and with staying two weeks in the same foreign city in a hotel. Other than that she just seems like an introvert who has to attend a press conference in a foreign language to boot.
Last year she struggled with pollen allergies in Rome. In the second clip her eyes look a bit swollen, which might or might not be due to a reoccurance of that this year. Something that isn't going to make her overtly thrilled and enthusiastic either. |
By:
It's also the same cities over and over again obviously. There's only so many times you can get excited about visiting the Colosseum.
|
By:
Her answers were really short in the press conference and she was giving off big "don't want to be here answering this rubbish" vibes to me..
|
By:
That's what I'd fully expect from a generally chill introvert like her in a foreign language. The nervous and awkward introvert like Iga instead bubbles on and on.

Ok, as I mentioned initially, my judgment is bound to not be best qualified as I have no experience of past press conferences of her to compare it to. I don't know what she normally answers like.
|
By:
"I mean, of course I'm not here to complain. I'm playing and making good money, but, I mean, I would say that it's not the best thing when you are kind of without emotions and you’re just like on remote control going to play.”

New The list of Squire's pathetic chokes this year is quite long? New one vs Riedi from 4-1... Riedi 4-1 to 4-6 in third Dzumhur 5-1 to 5-7 in third Hassan 7-6 5-3 Kirchheimer 6-3 *5-4 40-15 Berankis 5-2 to 5-7 in third https://www.menstennisforums.com/threads/the-all-purpose-challenger-tour-happenings-thread.994942/page-287?post_id=43048353#post-43048353 . |

Gotta give it to Kudermetova. Getting completely owned by Kerber twice is not something many players will achieve this season.
|
By:
The Russian won 1/13 points on her own serve in the second set.

Hey SaMeBe, purely hypothetically speaking....do we get to have replacement picks in the flagging comp are unfairly suspended from the sport by the scared establishment under the pretense of doping violations?
|
By:
*replacement picks in the flagging comp if one or more of our chosen players are unfairly...
|
By:
The WTA added a Halep Rule to its rulebook this week. People that were suspended for doping can now get a special ranking.
|
By:
Rafa time!

I wouldn't say Elena is fed up with tennis based on what I saw. The conclusions I drew is she doesn't like drawn out tournaments and pressers.
|
By:
|
By:
....Bartunkova...
|
By:
woah, Czechs usually don't dope.
Had she been bullied about her weight like BZS? |
By:
Yes, there is a caveat for the doping SR
“Qualifying TADP Matter” means players who (i) have been provisionally suspended for an apparent Anti-Doping Rule Violation (as defined in the TADP) or receive a period of ineligibility from an Anti-Doping Organisation (as defined in the TADP) or first-instance panel for an Anti-Doping Rule Violation, and (ii) have been found to have not committed or to bear No Fault (as defined in the TADP) or Negligence (as defined in the TADP) for a violation by an Anti-Doping Organisation, first-instance panel, or appeal panel (as applicable), and therefore no period of ineligibility applies. https://photoresources.wtatennis.com/wta/document/2024/05/08/76209622-0a3b-48a2-8852-7701de50e3fd/2024-WTA-Rulebook-5-2-2024-.pdf Full rule starting on page 160. ...so it might not actually be a Halep Rule as she was found negligent, right? |
By:
So let's call it the Tara Moore Rule instead. With her it was found that she did not bear any fault.
|
By:
Brenda fave against Sorana
|
By:
Do I get to take a temporary replacement during Bartunkova's time of ineligibility?
|
By:
Someone give Rafa some trimetazidine please.
