Thiem has said recently the wrist is still an issue. You think it's more lack of motivation?

What happened to Simona's comeback? She was meant to play Oeiras and Madrid, but played none of them.
|
By:
not sure. I know Simona, Woz and Raducanu failed to get WCs for Rome
|
By:
think I remember something about Halep withdrawing from Madrid to work on her fitness

But it's unlikely RG would give her a WC since they didn't give one to Sharapova. Clay used to be her best surface, but it wasn't in recent year's so maybe she'll skip the whole clay season since it makes little season to play one lead-up season, then focus on grass depending on what WC's she will get, then a clay event in Romania and then the US hardcourt season where I think she will get WC's where she wants. It's an odd situation we have now where so many players are relying on WC's and there aren't enough WC's to hand out. I thought for instance Woz wouldn't be needing them by now, but she does.

Halep has knee problems. She is now meant to play the WTA125 Paris (Clarins) next week, for which a wild card has beei reserved.

*little sense
not little season |

#22 Emma Navarro is also meant to have signed up for that WTA125 in case she loses in Rome early. Woman really dislikes having off-weeks.
|
By:
Where Rybakina is all like "They make us play too many events", Emma Navarro goes "Give us more events!"

Reports surfaced today btw. that the WTA250 Hamburg doesn't have a venue about 2 1/2 months before its start. After the ATP&WTA tournaments in Hamburg decoupled (different organisers now), the WTA tournament was meant to relocate to a fancy park setting. Problem is, there is an open air concert venue very nearby and they deem it impossible to have semifinals and final in the location due to the noise of the concerts and preceding sound checks on those days.

will the HSV let the WTA use their stadium to play the tournament?
|
By:
Doubtful.
|
By:
Rybakina had quite a few leg issues a year or two ago. Maybe she deems her body too fragile to play many non-major tournaments.
|
By:
Or she wants more weeks without tournament play so she can travel around with sis.

Lesia MTO.
HTEHB |
By:
Can't be given medicine because she already took it this morning.
|
By:
I have a feeling Donna isn't gonna shake Lesia's hand this time either if Lesia wins this match.
|

I have some potential bombshell news! (unless it's an error). Are you ready?
|
By:
yes
|

Though I have a strong feeling I know what it's about.

Melanie Lautrup @melanie_lautrup
Camila Giorgi is now listed as officially retired on the ITIA website, date of retirement: May 7th Her last match was against Swiatek in Miami, she did not enter Roland Garros https://twitter.com/melanie_lautrup/status/1788147160241881512 |

even less chance for SIG to come back now.
|
By:
Yeah, and this would explain why she didn't get a wild card for Rome.
|
By:
Or maybe she wanted one, didn't receive one and told everyone "Screw you guys -> home" in best Eric Cartman manner.
|
By:
Giorgi, Cornet, Collins ... Last half of 2024 and 2025 is going to be less fun.
|
By:
I thought she would be keen on playing the Olympics. Her posing with Novak in 2021 is one of only three times I have seen her smile, maybe because they have the same opinion on vaccines.
|
By:
She's old, injured and never liked clay to begin with.

Italian Open doing that thing WTA admin used to do. Posting a point where the loser wins a rare one.

Also the 6th highest ranked Italian and possibly feels more at ome with Argentina than with Italy.

she just needs to try for one tournament during grass season and her ranking would have shot up.

To be eligible for Paris 2024, a tennis player must satisfy the key criteria to play on Davis Cup or Billie Jean King Cup teams. The qualification pathway for the singles tournaments is primarily based on the ATP and WTA rankings of June 10, 2024, with 56 players entering each of the men's and women's singles (limited to four per National Olympic Committee (NOC)).
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tennis_at_the_2024_Summer_Olympics The first grass tournament of the season is from June 10 to 16, so won't count towards the olympic games. |
