All roads lead to Rome, except for in clay court tennis where Rome is just a stop on the road to Paris.

Let's see if we get some answers about Carlos's arm, Novak's old body and Stef's heart this fortnight.

The answer about Carlos's arm is that it isn't well enough to play Rome.

Last night in the Madrid thread I wrote in reply to wisewords that Golubic had been out for a while, but without specifying the injury. What's kept her out since January were foot and left knee problems.

The knee problems appear to be something more chronic, whereas the foot problems were something that occured shortly before the BJK Cup last month (stress/tiredness reaction).

Lots of rain expected today. We might get some play early in the day and then some more in the evening.

The USTA was found liable to pay punitive damages to tennis player Kylie McKenzie because they failed to protect her from sexual abuse from a coach (apparently hushed it up and kept employing the coach when it was already known that he shouldn't be working with women)

is the hushing bit new? I know about US gymnastics, but not sure I knew about this.

What do you mean new? I feel like the vast majority of scandals like this involve a degree of trying to brush things under a carpet. There is also a big sexual abuse case going on in Germany regarding swimming currently, which also is about the higher ups protecting themselves and the coach instead of (allegedly) abused athlete.

The big Penn State scandal also comes to mind.

The Penn State Board of Trustees commissioned an independent investigation by former FBI Director Louis Freeh, whose report stated that Penn State's longtime head football coach Joe Paterno, along with Spanier, Curley and Schultz, had known about allegations of child abuse by Sandusky as early as 1998, had shown "total and consistent disregard...for the safety and welfare of Sandusky's child victims", and "empowered" Sandusky to continue his acts of abuse by failing to disclose them.

we've had this in gymnastics and figure skating here, but not sure if that was on national or regional level.

Yes, the McKenzie vs. USTA case was all along about the USTA knowing that the coach she had been assigned by them was predatory.

....Or Tauson always pretending to be injured.

If you wanna spread fake news about a player Tauson is a good choice, as you'll end up looking shrewd about 50% of the time.

Rolexes? What was she doing with more than one? Is she a Rolex watch seller besides being a professional tennis player?
By:

Some people love their status symbols, though I hope she has an advertisement deal with Rolex and that's how she obtained them.

Mirra was also raving about really wanting a Rolex in the most recent Kasatkina/Zabiiako vlog. Maybe one day she will be good enough to get a sponsorship deal like all the greatest and most marketable players.
