It's finally time for the mother of all BJK Cup ties. The rematch of last year's classic in which the first three matches all had a final set.
Putintseva had a 6-2 lead in the final set tiebreak today to get Kazakhstan back into their ti against Japan, but Hibino came back to secure a 3:0 victory for Japan.
Katie with her big red fluffy hair tie actually looks competitive in this match.
The hair tie really is a very nice touch for a true patriot like Katie.
The Frenchies right now rueing their decision to have this tie indoors with Burel hitting the roof to lose a break point.
Burel broke emphatically to lead 5*-4 in the first set, but then Claytie Boulder stormed back to win all nine games that followed.
now that both Emma R and Claytie have mastered indoor clay, will Team GB put all their home indoor ties on this surface?
and why did France not choose outdoor clay? Big difference between indoors and outdoors as we have learnt by studying Angelique Kerber.
Aprils might be tricky for outdoor tournaments in most parts of France in regards to temperatures and rain. The WTA125 Rouen is also on indoor clay next week.
there's gotta be something in southern France, like Nice or Marseille. Not any issues with playing in Monaco this time of the year.

True, a 2 day tie is more sensitive to rain, but there have been other ties outdoors and there will always be a possibility of rain.
But I could see why they would wanna avoid the potential hassle and thinking it just being clay would be enough to damage Team GB.

Haddad Maia losing the first set from a 4-0 lead kind of dampened the joyful atmosphere in Sao Paulo.
Mike Cation just said on the stream that Brooksby is hoping to be back for the hardcourt season. Did not say why it will be that long yet, though. Brooksby was cleared to be eligible for tournament play in March after all.
I see Ukraine's home tie against Romania was played in ... the United States. I understand Ukraine is not possible to play in, but North America? Is this because players were in the US the week(s) before or is this some sort of US/Ukraine friendship thing?
I read Svitolina explaining it the other day. It basically came down to them wanting to play on clay, but outdoors clay in Europe being difficult (weather), indoors clay being hard to book in Europe and them already having been in the USA due to Charleston.

During this week's BJK Cup, Nina Stojanovic, most famous for making Johanna Konta chop her balls in Nottingham in 2021, saw her first pro tennis action since November 2022. She played in two of Serbia's doubles matches.
When Tamira Paszek later today plays her qualification match at the WTA125 Oeiras, that seems to be her first attempt at playing a tournament above ITF level since 2016.
Probably just playing it because she was already in Oeiras due to the zonal BJK Cup there this week though....
