It's going to be fun to see Burrage and Boulter on clay if they venture onto it this season. Last year Boulter went to play weak, but high grade, ITFs in Japan during the clay season. This year as a top50ish player she'll probably have to show up. Burrage not ranked quite as high, but she will hopefully also show up.

Burrage actually played very well against powderballer Bara once at RG qualification for a few games before it went downhill.

I just looked at her match history on tennis abstract. She hates clay more than she hates the outer crust on pizza!

Boulter is 27 years old and has never won a main draw match on red clay above the 10k ITF level in her career.

She might not be that bad if she actually gave it a try.

As an overall improved player she should certainly be able to beat some of the mugs. Even clay specialist mugs like she did with Brancaccio last year.

Brancaccio is one of those weird clay courters that cannot move and are high risk and flashy though. Boulter will have an easier time hitting with those than with the clay grinders.

Aoi Ito will never make it onto the main tour, but she is fun to watch. She will always play the unconventional shot, approach on all sorts of junk (and her footwork is onconventional as well - she sometimes simply forgets to move into an ideal position for shots).

I find it interesting that Galfi's best result in 2023 was Linz (QF). But instead of trying to defend those points (or maybe it wasn't possible to get entry due to her lower ranking this year), she played Hua Hin instead and made QF.

The WTA makes it unnecessarily tedious to know for sure, but I am pretty sure that she would even have gotten into Linz qualification, yeah.

Part of it will also have been Linz's upgrade to a WTA500, albeit a very weak one because the WTA not only insists on pre-slam WTA500s, but also post-slam ones.

At this point this is not even respectful anymore. Just embarrassing to even look at this. U could easily break a leg there and no one would give a damn.

No retirements in Hammamet all weeks, so likely no broken legs yet.

In general though, of course tournaments deserve to be called out if they present unplayable and dangerous courts. Hopefully the ITF will help the players.

What I find a bit weird is that Paz opens his statement with "Now that I am no longer part of the ITF I can express myself freely again.". Active players have complained about courts and generally conditions before and I can't really imagine that the ITF went down on them with a vengeance.

Five games have been completed between Sasnovich and Krueger in their Abu Dhabi qualification match. The player from Belarus won 2 of the first 22 points.

Maybe, but probably just Sasnovich being herself. She was the original bakery girl of the WTA tour after all before Iga came along based on how often she'd go and lose sets in a one-sided way.
