Congrats Germany on winning the United Cup. While we are still recovering from the sad news of Rafa missing the Australian Open, there are still tennis to play. A joint event (but no Maya) in Adelaide, the men take over Auckland and a new superstar is waiting to be born in Hobart. All this plus Aussie Open qualies. Enjoy!

Regardless of the change of conditions she must have thought she had a decent draw, her opponent has overperformed a bit and Erika' panicked an turned into an error machine.

Not exclusive to the festive season, but Rodionova played 105 singles matches last year. Erika with her measly 73 matches is not even in the same conversation.
So basically if Woz is ever going to make a nostalgic deep run in a slam this is her chance. What a draw.

It was woeful. There was no streaming, no TV, not even proper livescores I think. A purely local event for those that attended.
Which is just a disaster for a sports that tours the globe year-round and should seek to advertise its rising stars to that global audience.
The WTA in general is so bad and tragically low effort in advertising its brand. WTA TV is hidden away instead of promoted, it doesn't have the WTA125 tour, the social media activity including off court videos is so much worse than what the ATP and TennisTV do....
yeah I saw several users on X saying it was so nice to have TennisTV handle the social media for United Cup because they do such a better job than WTA, when it comes to posting match clips etc.
The ATP/TennisTV was doing far better, more motivated clips on the women at the United Cup than the WTA does. That simply should not be the case. Kasatkina was absolutely right when she recently slammed the WTA and its "efforts" in promoting the product.

It's this weird thing the WTA has been doing for a while. They schedule WTA500 (or previously premier) tournaments the week before a slam all the time to attract top players, but top players then obviously are not entirely enthusiastic about going all out.
The ATP on the other hand only puts ATP250 tournaments in that slot.

This was an existing rule, but in 2023 it was two that you had to play if your ranking allows you direct entry. Now I read it is six.
I could perhaps buy it if it was only Aussie Open because the Aussie/NZ season is so compact, but no reason for the other ones. And the ratio of 500 events compared to 250 ones is so whack.
They deliberately put these WTA500 in the weeks before every major. With Bad Homburg's upgrade to a WTA500, the week directly before Wimbledon is even going to have two WTA500 unless Eastbourne gets cancelled/demoted (which is not going to happen).

it's an odd one, because as you say players will not give their all and at some point ticket buyers will figure this out.
The ATP needs to acquire the WTA already. Otherwise the Saudis will do it before long and then Toni Kroos will be banned from ever attending a tournament.

Each pick has to be submitted before the relevant match starts and once you've submitted the pick, you are stuck with it unless the match did not happen due to a prematch withdrawal. In that case you get to submit a new pick.
This was previously in an "additional rules" section. The rest of the "additional rules" section was also replaced by the Case/Decision thing, inspired by the ATP rulebook.
