I think she was probably hard done by with the umpire failing to make a call when she had match point herself - a call that would have seen her win the match, but true sports like Rafa would still have shaked hands. It's simply a matter of respect. Then behind the back you later make sure that umpire never works a match of yours ever again.

I know mes hates the wild card system being used to mollycoddle home players in slams but it's not an insignificant edge if it lands in the lap of the right person. I think someone at the ATP felt that sets in the ATP are early breaks and then you have a lot of wasted time with players going through the motion for another half dozen games as the sets are served out. Shortening that and instead giving a new set is meant to raise excitement.

Set down. In the last game alone she's skimmed her racket across the court and screamed at the ceiling as if she was giving birth to Beelzebub.

Bassols Ribera's level is starting to drop a bit now so despit Erika being a set down I'm now expecting her to come through this.

Nah she's toast. Credit to the Spaniard she has a lot of heart.

Erika's ceiling is way higher though. Her serve has really improved and when she's on she's great to watch. But her biggest weakness is actually her ability and her willingness to anticipate. She gets locked into her gameplan and eg in this match she's constantly being left stranded by really obvious shots from the Spaniard. The frustration and emotion fruitloop behaviour is actually just a symptom that comes as a result of this.

This is what separates her from Mirra imo. Get past this and she does have cujones, she does have weapons and she should be a top 50 player.

Also when she does get left stranded she almost always pulls a legs apart, head down 'you got me Doc Holliday' pose of defeat.
So encouraging and energising to an opponent. Cut that nonsense out for 2024 please.
