Alize must have separation anxiety from tennis. Has talked about retirement for quite a while, then kept going, presumably because she had such a great 2022, but 2023 has been one bad result after another.
Based on reading her book, I think playing an Olympics at home would be a great goal for her and my guess is that this is what keeps her going, as well as keeping the grand slam streak alive so it will be interesting to see what she does if she keeps slipping down the rankings as that will impact both those things.

I don't think it's 100% gamesmanship though. There's some injury in the head going as well so that he thinks the injury is worse than what it is, same as Cornet.

When Eva Lys took her MTO against Cristian in Transylvania (after which she quickly turned the match around) the thing I noticed was that she didn't act in any way inhibited by the strapping etc. My reading of it was a young impressionable player that had seen MTOs being successfully used strategically and not seeing anything wrong with it. Whereas someone like Leylah doesn't employ that kind of strategy and gets annoyed by seeing it used against her, which then affects (or has affected) her own concentration.

I'm specifically thinking about MTOs because you mentioned Siniakova Obviously the dying swan act is a different thing

Daniela seems to have upset a few people with an interview where she said the WTA players seem a bit spilt to her, they're lucky they're not working in a mine from 4 in the morning and she supposedly said they should be grateful to be getting checks because of the mens tour (although I translated the interview myself and that seems to have been the interviewer's headline and take of what she meant but not her actual words).

Regarding the final sentence, Murray has said the same about Novak's antics.

Is the theory behind Samsonova and Kudermetova that Kudermetova will let her friend win, because she can't qualify herself, and can only stop Samsonova qualifying by winning which sends Zhu through. Otherwise prices are absolute madness surely.
