Mirra owned. Got a break early in both sets, failed to go 2 breaks up, then Bondar mixed it up a lot and played lots of moonshots and angles. Mirra looked lost out there today, wasn't playing well. Bondar did.
or does she have to wait til she's 26 until she can handle this?

TBOTAJ between Cristian and the (as of now) lesser Jorge sister. Matilde already had a bunch of match points in the second set on her own serve, none of which she was obviously able to convert. Now she's trying to do better in the TBOTAJ and give joy to the raucious home crowd of 10.
Matilde saves a match point herself to make it 6-6. Very exciting this.

Saw a thread on TF yesterday on that where someone went all "HOW CAN THEY ANNOUNCE WHEN WOZNIACKI AND ANDREESCU PLAY IF THEY DON'T KNOW THE DRAW YET AND THE DRAW ISN'T FIXED????????????"
The US Open are introducing video review on its show courts for double bounces, to decide whether a wrong call hindered a player or not (why the need for this with hawkeye live?) and all that stuff.

double bounce hawkeye live should be able to determine on its own, hindrance/whether a call affected a player's shot or not is more of a judgment call that human eyes are needed for.
Yeah, but with hawkeye live you don't get overturned calls that could have hindered a player.
feels so weird to watch outdoor hardcourts in fairly big stadiums in Europe.
Muchova had four match points when she served for an easy 6-1 final set victory. She lost all of them and didn't win another game in the match.
Marina Bassols also lost a 5-1 final set lead today against the pride of Britain.

Avanesyan led 5-0, but never managed to even get to set point and eventually lost the set 5-7.

It's all a bit a bit weird. These former eastern bloc countries are understandably all real hardline towards Russia because they lived under Russian oppression for so long. Yet Eastern Germany, where Russia also struck down protests by rolling tanks over protesters, love themselves some Russia.
Altmaier had a last desperate attempt at victory when he went sent a full throttle ball right at Zhang's balls when Zhang was serving for the match at 30-0, but it didn't damage the Chinese man enough for him to forfeit the match.
I like the strategy. We see hail mary plays in other sports, why not tennis.

Without having watched Warsaw, I think it just got dark. I read earlier this week that, while they do somewhat have some lamps on centre court, they don't have real floodlights that are approved to play under when it gets a bit darker.

so for Svito vs Vika in DC there will be an announcement before the match that there will be no handshake post match. Hope it's a well worded announcement and that it gets the intended result and there won't be any repeats of the muggery at RG and Wimbledon.
