Here's a thread to discuss the final.

I think Ons finally gets her first Grand Slam title today. I'll predict she does it in straight sets. Good luck with your bets!

Farcical.
The roof is there for rain not wind.
Let them cope with the conditions ffs.

indeed. If they are concerned about rain later, let's close the roof once the rain comes.

according to John, they did it because it's really, really windy today

The wind will favour the player who copes with it best.
Outdoor tourny for a reason.
That's how Murray won his 1st slam v Novak at the USO - coped with the wind better.

I thought Wimbledon is supposed to be an outdoor tournament. That means you play in heavy wind, but not in rain.

But this policy is good news for Novak tomorrow.

precisely
the conditions are a massive part of the sport

It is exceptionally windy. I would rather players play without that hinderance.

I know. I'm just repeating what he said. both players must have agreed to it? or maybe the official reason is they're expecting rain, but he didn't say that

It's nice outdoors though! Unless it's raining or very windy!

But this, as far as I know, is not what the roof was built for. I suppose if both players agreed to it that's fair enough. But if it comes down to that then someone like Carlos would be so nice that he'd agree to close the roof against Novak even if that meant he would be doing himself a massive disservice.

Unless Jabeur suddenly turns into an Elina here Laugh

Dreadful match to date. No surprise there of course.

Ons is the new Ash Barty when chilled but she wants this too much right now, switch off Ons if you want to champion of the day, master your emotions, Novak style !!!

Yep.
Last decent women's final I can remember was Seles v Graf Roland Garros 1992.

Wozniacki v Halep was a good final in 2018, Doperpova v Hypelep FO14 was good, but nearly 70% of slam finals since the year 2000 have been straight set wins

This is awful. It's like they are both trying to be so super nice to one another that neither of them want to win.

The last time I can recall such an unwanted women's final at Wimbledon was Novotna-Tauziat. Another horror show

Quiz question, who is the only women in the open era to have retired in a Grand slam final, bonus pts for year and Slam

Jabeur seems to be conflicted. She clearly relishes being portrayed as the most super-nice person in the world. But to cement that status, she might need to lose.

She did all the hardest work by beating Ryba and Saba. That's why I was getting Sabine vibes, but at least she has been better than that.

I'll extend that question to the mens as well, only 1 man has retired in the mens slam finals
