Not sure if this has been mentioned elsewhere, but when are the schedulers going to realise that starting matches on the show courts so late, means that they have to close the roof due to darkness. Crazy

Just start earlier ffs!

how long until they eventually realise? year 2030?
Report Wesdag July 7, 2023 12:55 PM BST
It's an absolute joke.
I think at Roland Garros they start at 10am local time.
Utterly farcical that they waste all the daylight then have to put the roof on because of darkness.
The roof was put on for rain not blooming darkness. Cry
Report wisewords July 7, 2023 12:58 PM BST
if you were in charge, when would you start play on centre and 1?
Report mafeking July 7, 2023 1:45 PM BST
12 seems a more reasonable time. people come to watch tennis not eat and drink first. in what other sport do you pay not get to see the conclusion of the main event of the day due to the idiocy of the organisers ?

12.
I'd want last match scheduled to start at 5 at the latest if it's a men's match.

Exactly.
I don't see this nonsense happening at any other slam.
They could easy start at 12 if they really wanted to & say last match to start no earlier than 5pm.

1 pm start on CC instead of 1:30. If Murray is involved, don't put another bo5 match on the schedule.
Report Wesdag July 7, 2023 3:24 PM BST
Bottom line is, the roof should never be closed due to darkness.

They should know by now that it gets dark from 9pm so it shouldn't take an Einstein to know that if you start a men's match too late, it might not finish in time.

They'sve done Stef a huge favour. Hope he sends them a christmas card.

R soles once again.
What chance Novak v Stan being completed without the roof being closed?
Is this not meant to be an outdoor tourny? Crazy
Report wisewords July 7, 2023 7:55 PM BST
they'll close the roof and still they'll fail to finish it
Report Wesdag July 7, 2023 9:12 PM BST
Farcical phucking scenes.
Wimbers now partly an indoor tourny.
They must know it gets dark from 9, why tf can't they just start 2 hours earlier??
Report Wesdag July 9, 2023 6:34 PM BST
Yet another indoor match for Noval incoming cos these dozy cuunts can't simply start a couple of hours earlier.

Anywhere else but Wimbers, these gravy train presenters would be up in arms.

Report mafeking July 9, 2023 11:08 PM BST
yes an ongoing farce. sure i remember back in the day you had the 4th singles or a doubles on centre say 7.30 in the evening. no way the 3rd match should be starting after 8pm
Report Wesdag July 10, 2023 11:12 AM BST
Another glaring issue is that Wimbledon should've installed floodlights without the need to close the damn roof.

The roof should only ever be closed because of rain not darkness.

Thank you.
Report lurka July 11, 2023 11:59 AM BST
Is there not some rule that they are only allowed to play very late with the roof closed due to noise or at least that's why they built the roof and floodlights as one in order to get planning approval and sell it as reducing noise?
Report Wesdag July 11, 2023 1:33 PM BST
Very possibly.
But if these r soles just used a bit of common sense & started earlier then all that wouldn't arise.
The roof should only ever be need if it rains.
Report wisewords July 11, 2023 1:54 PM BST
I think we'll see a 12 start time on court 1 next year and a 1pm start time on centre. that's my guess
Report Wesdag July 11, 2023 2:46 PM BST
They start at 10am local time at Roland Garros.
Report wisewords July 11, 2023 3:00 PM BST
they do. we'll see. what do you think they'll do Wes? they could change absolutely nothing
Report Wesdag July 11, 2023 3:06 PM BST
Eff all.
The All England Club seem to revel in being outliers.
What other slam ever has to split matches over 2 days when it hasn't rained?
Simply rank bad planning.
Report lurka July 11, 2023 6:43 PM BST
Prob has something to do with tv deals. ESPN have a 12 year deal for £300m. Later starts would definitely suit them.
