quite annoyed with that one. Plenty of arbs in the 1st set but I didn't take them because Lesia is so injury prone. Then I went in mid 2nd set, because I didn't think Bianca looked all that bad, and had already stayed out there 4 games since the initial MTO, and isn't a quitter. A few points later there was the handshake. With any other opponent than Lesia I would have had big win on this, now instad small/midsize loss.
Report SamuelMertensBertens February 4, 2023 1:50 PM GMT
on the other hand something was probably wrong, or she wouldn't have lost 7 games in a row or whatever it was. Just strange when she takes an MTO for the shoulder, tells her team it's ok, but then says her legs don't work.

I don't like him, but it's not good for tennis if he ends up another Thiem. Tennis needs all the stars it can get. But only 1 month into his comeback, so too early to count him out yet.

Novak is holding the show together but there must be alarm bells.

Tsitsipas should get a few cracks at finals and he clearly has Djokovic's respect. Alcaraz is theoretically in the mix unless injuries act as a limiter like Del Potro.
Trying to name a solid third candidate of this gen to consistently challenge is actually quite tricky.

It was a good spectacle in its own way, Novak just annihilating the field, But you couldn't have too many non-competitive slams before it starts to harm the product.

Report mesmerised February 4, 2023 6:23 PM GMT
Rune wont amount to much, it's Alcaraz that I'm convinced will start to dominate, he'll be the next 10+ slam winner, it's strange how's his height is deceptive, you wouldn't think at first glance he was over 6ft, like Gasquet, short legs, longer torso.

Tsonga was very talented, after that Aus final in 08 you'd never have bet against him reaching more slam finals but it never happened, closest I remember was the year Ferrer got to the French final, I think Nadal had just had a marathon 5 setter match against Novak and the crowd were knackered and all filtered out to get drinks, rest and whatnot, Tsonga walked out onto court in the one of the biggest matches of his life on home turf to an almost empty stadium and you could see the complete dejection on his face as he was walking out onto court, this off of the back of knocking out Federer, it refilled somewhat but he never got the energy back and was beaten easily, a shame that Tsonga v Nadal final never happened because although Rafa would no doubt have won, it'd been interesting to see the a packed crowd completely against him for that one match. The organisers can be to blame for that, they had it in their minds that they wanted Tsonga on at peak time for the French audience, they should have had the foresight to see what would happen, suffice to say the former Bricklayer was just an easy tune up in the final. Think some mug in the stand tried to get on to court with a flare as well.
