it's a lame way to go out in such a jumped up and manufactured tournament, as far as I'm concerned his last defeat was in straights to Hurkacz, sent out with a bagel. I imagine he'll only play doubles at Laver Cup, if he couldn't even get through a week in Basel there was zero chance he could get through a first week at a slam let alone win another 1 or 2.I think he only carried on because he was so upset at Swebih asking him to retire in 2013, so he carried on another 9 years to piss him off.
Pretty sure you can't play just doubles unless he changes the rules for himself.

Should've retired last year after Wimbledon.Totally shot to pieces as indicated by the farewell bagel.
If he had a crystal ball that said "Even if you spend the next 14 months rehabbing your knee, it won't get much better and you'll never be able to be competitive again" I'm sure he would have, but athletes like Roger Federer, and other great ones who have dealt with injuries, would have not achieved the greatness they have reached if they quit as soon as they faced some setbacks. They will try and try again to overcome whatever they're facing until it's 100% clear that their bodies are no longer allowing them to do so.
